Thunderbird Club

Next time your buddy asks about basses just tell him that the best bang for the buck deal out there right now on new basses is the Epiphone Thunderbird VP. The lighter the better and the (whatever color you don't have yet) is the most desirable one to get.

It sounds like his benefactor wants to buy him "steak". I second the Cataldo route.

A little bit of the crowd from Saturday night, not a large place, on their own they wouldn't have been able to pay us as they don't charge cover. Our fee was paid by one patron celebrating her 50th birthday.

I played the Greco Thunderbird II and the Jackson during the show, both are a little smaller than my other Birds and didn't seem to overwhelm the postage stamp stage.

Operative word, "had".
Actually I was considering getting a Casady for myself but haven't tried one yet. Any good?
The whole vari-gain knob thing sounds unique but not sure how much I'd use it. My original plan was a Gibson Memphis bass but the used gold tops are proving to be impossible to find at reasonable prices.

I think that new one is still at my local music store.

It’s not showing it, but there’s a demo one in BC Gibson - 2016 ES-Les Paul Bass - Goldtop

But get a red one.

Yeah, I love the red ones!

I loved to get a real Gibson LP Signature, but the prices have gotten nutty and the EPI JC’s are really good. I liked mine a lot and did one of my favorite tracks on one. Used black tapewounds and it was rad. The vari-knob thing was useless to me. Just put it on the sound you like and leave it there. Overall, they’re terrific basses. I sold mine to help fund my Gretsch, which is also hollow and covers similar ground, but I’d rock another JC in a heartbeat!

I love my JC. It might be my most played bass. The varitone goes from clean to thumpy to grind. Strings make a big difference and where you play makes a difference. A wide variety of sounds are available.

The JC is high on my GAS list. Would love to get one it and it may very well be my next bass. I need something that is completely different than anything else in my collection.

Yes they are good - well worth checking out!

This is a very cool, intimate pic.

It was fun (more fun than I thought it was going to be!) to play a small place (85 people was the posted max.) like that, I set my 4x10 on an old wood and metal milk crate to de-couple it from the stage, it seemed to help quite a bit, plus it held a lot of small stuff on the way in too.

Nah, a custom bass is too personal to leave it to someone else to spec.
I could see Duke rockin one of these on stage...
Epiphone Jack Casady Artist Series Signature Bass - Metallic Gold
Kinda half way between his TBird sound and his Upright sound, and seems like it would fit right in with the look of the band.

No, no that’s wrong. It’s me that needs that :D

That’s the bass that started me down this rabbit hole... best get one at some stage.

Gold top would be grand.
