Thunderbird Club

So some of our crew are into pedals. Our band is doing a mishmash of 80s tunes, 3 sets worth, and here and there, we have distortion in the bass. I'm looking at a way to get that, my Trace head doesn't do distortion though ( the Elf gets a little overdrive working, but nothing like what I'm after). So I think I'm looking for a pedal... might also look for an external eq box too, for use with the Elf. I like the sound of that little box, and I'm getting it dialed in as I go, so that's not as big a deal.
So who makes an interesting O.D. pedal that's not a one-trick talking dog? Looking for a little shimmer, a little rancor, a little chainsaw through the White Pages...

KORG Toneworks AX10B Bass Modeling Signal Processor

Whole herd of multitasking ponies. Easy to use and endlessly fascinating with 4 to 12 strings. Distortion, delay, shimmer, etc. Did I mention CHEAP?

I've had this for 20 +/- years. Older version(?) w/ 11 heads, 10 cabs, 11 effects; Gain, Volume,Treble,Mids, Bass and effect depth. Uses 3 AA batteries-or power transformer thing-y. 2 presets, 1 programmable.

<ADDENDUM> It even makes a 100W/1x10" amp by a company I refuse to mention sound like a mini-SVT, w/o the grunt and strain.

YESTERDAY'S TECHNOLOGY TOMORROW...Believe It!

Pretty much, except 40 programmable presets and a volume pedal.

Last night kicking out the jams. I'm kind of disappointed in these Thunderbuckers (real ones from the Ranch) - they sound right, but seem kind of soft on the output, and they're raised pretty close to the strings as it is. I have a single 'bucker in a Dunable Thunderclapper that's pretty hairy. What gives? I am suspecting the weak stock wiring/pots/etc.(?) which I kept in this bass.

Which Thunderbuckers are they? There are different winds for different reasons.

That's a nice looking bass! As long as they are functional, wiring and pots don't make much difference to the output. A 500K volume pot will be slightly brighter than a 250K.

Somehow I missed this post (not getting my thunderbird forum alerts again). Some nice clean muscle there. Well done son!

The 390 should be plenty fast from zero to about 120. In fact if you put your foot in it, you can probably pass darn near everything on the road except a gas station.;)
Seriously, mind the brakes. My experience with that car was there was a lot more engine than brakes. Take good care of her, she's a keeper!
Thanks GB. Not to mention, how much easier it is to work on these. You got a blocked fuel line? No problem, pour gas into the carb (I know it's not good for the oil in the sleeves and other things) and crank it over until you dislodge the blockage, flood it? wait a few minutes, bad regulator? you can wing it for a few miles and on and on..
Kinda like the difference between working on tube amps vs modeling amps.....
I'm surprised at how well the brakes work, clearly not modern antilocking ABS types but the discs up front anchor pretty well..

That would be a good thing.:smug:

There is a certain sweet spot in technology where it functions nicely, but it's not sophisticated to the point that you can't diagnose and repair it yourself.
