Thunderbird Club

Looking for a little shimmer, a little rancor, a little chainsaw through the White Pages...

So I googled the technical terms and found:
a little shimmer

a plush rancor

The I realized - none of this helps with pedals. :D:roflmao:

So some of our crew are into pedals. Our band is doing a mishmash of 80s tunes, 3 sets worth, and here and there, we have distortion in the bass. I'm looking at a way to get that, my Trace head doesn't do distortion though ( the Elf gets a little overdrive working, but nothing like what I'm after). So I think I'm looking for a pedal... might also look for an external eq box too, for use with the Elf. I like the sound of that little box, and I'm getting it dialed in as I go, so that's not as big a deal.
So who makes an interesting O.D. pedal that's not a one-trick talking dog? Looking for a little shimmer, a little rancor, a little chainsaw through the White Pages...

$200 should get you a plethora of good options. Some people really like the newer Ampeg stomp boxes:

Did your body have that giant hole that the neck plate covers up? Mine does or I would have gone with just 4 screws with the ferrules.

I had this one made for my Nocturnal/Warmoth Bird:

It does, but I have more epoxy and I'm not opposed to filling it up... the ferrules are a consideration too. Especially if I go the contoured heel route.

Looks good. Is it etched?

Some kind of laser etching. I can't remember who I ordered from but you could submit your own images so I went with the Bacardi bat (one of my favorite logos ever).

Somehow I missed this post (not getting my thunderbird forum alerts again). Some nice clean muscle there. Well done son!

The 390 should be plenty fast from zero to about 120. In fact if you put your foot in it, you can probably pass darn near everything on the road except a gas station.;)
Seriously, mind the brakes. My experience with that car was there was a lot more engine than brakes. Take good care of her, she's a keeper!

ALL Thunderbirds built after 1980 are daily drivers, if you want to think about it that way.

I'm hoping that in 2063, my grandkids think their live or deceased grandpa's 50 y/o basses are pretty cool.

Love that car! I only have a painting of one....View attachment 3169741

Stylin pad there, beats a pair of shoes any day.

That pad screams, "No woman lives here!" Ahhhh... I remember way back in the 90's when I was in charge of my "pads" decor. :)

I always think about how awesome it will be in the 2060’s when there’s flying cars, and I’ll have 100 year old vehicles drive on roads with no one else in sight drool

Checked out the BK3, and the EHX Soul Food for bass last night. That was interesting... didn't get into the screaming/shimmery range, but seemed to maybe do enough. Among the fx I'm after is the bass sound on the original live release of "Red Skies..." by The Fixx, which appeared to be an Aria Pro II into an SVT... don't know what else was going on there.

I'll look at the Ampegs tonight...

Exactly the point I was making. In the 60s all those 'classic' basses so many pay outrageous prices for were 'daily drivers'. Although it is difficult to predict what is tomorrow's classic and what is destined to the rubbish dump of history, treating an instrument poorly, failing to maintain it, or otherwise abusing it certainly means that if it survives, it is unlikely to be worth the princely sums that the near-mint/good condition ones fetch.

In the 60s, the Jetsons predicted that in the far off future of 2002, we would live in apartments in the sky, work an hour a day two days a week, driving flying cars, and have robots and push buttons to take care of our every whim.

Or maybe the machines will have taken over and terminators will have been sent back in time to destroy mankind. Of course, then you have the 'grandfather' paradox.

Or maybe in 30 years, life will be much like it is now. Only with faster internet.

I've been looking at OD units on the yoot oob lately. Two that intrigue me (other than the Soul Food you already tried) are the TC Electronics Cinders and Mojo Mojo. The EHX Hot Wax looks interesting too.

Totally agree. I take care of everything I have... vehicles, residences, tools, music gear, etc. Family, relationships and friendships too.

Basically, I take care of everything that's important to me. :)

Well....at the time,TRUE! 2 guys lived there.
We sold our house to a nice couple back in April, and had this same aubergine deep purple color on 2 walls of the kitchen as well. The wife LOVED it.
But to keep things on track :D ,here’s a photo of my favorite bassist playing a NR Thunderbird.
