Thunderbird Club

Cyclists 'taking on' semi's, busses etc? :cautious: Round here (and everywhere serious cyclists ride) there's an accepted saying; "the vehicle with the most wheels always wins" - and as a lifetime cyclist, ex-(road)bike racer of 25 yrs, and an avid motorcyclist - my primary goal is to survive on roads inhabited by angry distracted drivers while enjoying a couple hrs on the road in the sunshine.

It's an interesting perspective. All I know is that my town is full of aggressive, entitled cyclists who will sprint to pass a car/truck/bus, get in front and center of lane, then shift into a super low gear so they are being passed by pedestrians while slowing traffic to a crawl. I am not disputing that a cyclist has fair use of the road. Not sure i'd call that stunt 'fair', especially when there's a dedicated bike lane they are electing to not use. I wish everyone using the roads could be fair, polite and courteous... but then I'd run out of road rage videos to watch when it's dead at work.

I really like my Vintage Pro! It was built in Nov 17. Someone here had a newer one that was noticeably thicker and heavier, so that may be something to watch out for.

How can you tell when it was built? I bought mine last November around the middle of the month, would be neat to find the actual build date.

I googled the serial# and found the date + that it was made in Indonesia. Don’t think I had the foresight to bookmark the page though:sour:
Found an Epiphone serial number decoder...

According to this info my VP was built in July of 2017 in Indonesia and was the 604th one built. So I guess that's one of the early ones.

We have some of that entitled bicyclist syndrome here. There are bicycle commuters who are generally aware of what they are doing and who manage to share the road back really well for the most part. Then there are the bike share riders who don't have the foggiest idea what they are doing in traffic. You have to look out for them, but it's not on account of an attitude problem, just general lack of experience. Then there are the entitled twits who blow stop signs, block traffic, expect pedestrians, other traffic, and pretty much everyone to kowtow to their peloton, whether it's one bicycle or, lord help us, a whole pack of 'em. That last bunch of clowns is what irritates a whole lot of people, including me.

I used to ride a bicycle everywhere, when I had time to use it as basic transportation and was going distances that made it feasible. So, I look for bicycles, and think about where they might be. That hasn't prevented some near misses as bicycles pop out from blind areas at full speed, expecting a clear pathway no matter what. I have had them nearly slam into my side doing that, my wife had her foot broken by one who ran over her, and there have been a whole lot of other near misses on sidewalks and the like. The bicycle rider in question is nearly always indignant about the obstacle that whatever or whoever is posing. What this proves is that being a jerk is equal opportunity and that high profile jerks tar everyone else who is remotely similar.

Good thing there are no jerks who play Thunderbirds. ;)

Being the pedestrian that i am here in this lousy city, makes me more of an angry NYorker. And the cyclists, (bicyclists) think they own the road, they're worse then drivers.

Is it a colour you'd finger?:smug:
Somebody spent a lot of time fingering the bass, judging by the thumb impression they made:

You could always move out here to sunny Southern California where it's pretty much a free for all traffic wise. :woot:

:rollno:If you're driving a big rig you have to watch out for the morons in white pickups and SUVs...
:bored:If you're an SUV you have to watch out for the moron driving a white Prius...
:eek:If you're a Prius driver you have to watch out for suicidal lane splitting motorcycles...
:banghead:If you're a motorcycle rider you have to watch out for crazy unpredictable tourists on bycicles...
:confused:If you're a cyclist you have to keep an eye open for stoned skateboarders...
:rage:If you're a skateboarder you have to put up with joggers that decide to run on the sidewalk...
o_OIf you're a jogger you're trying to dodge pedestrians walking pit bulls ...
:mad:If you're a pit bull you're just trying to get that squirrel...
:smug:And if you're a squirrel you're in heaven because you're completely surrounded by nuts!

But the weather is great!:D

I really dig my 66s. Be interesting to see manufacturer's frequency sweep data on both brands..
Steve would be happy to share that info. All I know is they sound just like my originals that he cloned. That's all I cared about.

Yeah, I sent him a note. Thanks. The ones he cloned were 63s?

63s and 66s, six total originals, one of which was in bad shape.

Also milled the tooling for the cans and stamped/finished about 250 before they became commercially available.

Built the winder.

Did the cad work for the rings which get waterjetted, spacers too. Vintage 60s radius.
