It’s an original Jazz Bass Special (84-87).
Somebody put a lot of miles on it and then it apparently sat in a basement for years, but it’s a very nice playing bass.

I wish my hearing was that good! Part of my life's ambition is to dispel the belief that Thunderbirds can only be used for one type of music. I use mine for rock, big band, jazz and concert band right now and I've used it for country(and Western)in the past.

I went straight to a hipshot on mine.

I am fully converted, everything with a 3 point now has a hipshot.

I haven't spent time analyzing the vectors, but I think that the 3 point "floating" above the body provides a fulcrum at the front anchor allowing the extraction of the rear anchors. The hipshot, being flush, removes the fulcrum.

not to mention that front fulcrum being the only real coupling mechanism of energy to the body.....surprised they sound as good as they do..
