Thunderbird Club

Excellent way to remember your Dad.

I have to admit I didn’t know of John Williamson. My wife is the country fan in our house. I’ll go with her to shows and usually enjoy them. She really likes that Aussie country guy with the tall hot wife. I’m a huge Paul Kelly fan. Anyway, thanks for posting about someone we otherwise wouldn’t know about. We’ll give him a listen.

Keith Urban ? Always amused me that - a country singer named Urban...

JW is not similar. For a start he doesn’t put on an American accent to sing in. He is more country/folk singer songwriter in the Australian tradition of “bush balladeers”. But after 45 years he has amassed a large number of songs.
If you saw the Steve Irwin funeral JW sang “True Blue” at it.

PM me if you want some songs to try out.

Helter Skelter was fairly heavy.

Yes as were a few on the White Album and “I want you (she’s so heavy)”. I think he was talking Day Tripper or something off Revolver. Can’t remember.

The other day I auditioned for a reggae band that was looking for a sub bassist. I brought my Casady (that has LaBella flats on it) and that worked out pretty well.
They called back and offered me the main bassist position, so now I’m contemplating whether to bring another bass or stick with the JC? My VP and EBO are both trying to get my attention, jumping up and down saying “take me!”

Yep, Keith Urban. My wife loves the guy. Me, not so much. I do like the YouTube videos where he pulls up a kid from the audience and lets them have a go. My wife has seen him two or three times. She went with friends so I didn’t go. I only go to her country stuff if one of her girlfriends can’t go with her. She doesn’t go to all my shows either. She isn’t into Death Cab for Cutie, Silversun Pickups, Future Islands, or my surf stuff and the like. When we go with each other, we’re good sports about it even if it isn’t someone one of us would pick to see. There are some though, where both of us are really excited to see the same show. Neil Young and Crazy Horse recently was a must see for both of us. We’re both fans af the Avitt Brothers and see them at every opportunity. We’re passing on Fleetwood Mac this time around because the prices are outrageous and there is no Buckingham. I like Neil Finn, but she won’t have any of it. She has also broadened my tastes. The first Zac Brown show I went to I thought I’d hate it. But now I’m kind of a fan. Same with, of all people, Alan Jackson. And we’re going to a Dwight Yokum show sometime in December I think.

I primarily do Spotify these days and your J.W.’s whole catalogue looks to be available. I’ll be checking him out. I love a good story, like PK’s From Little Things Big Things Grow.

My post above #95941 above has my thoughts on the White album.

Cheers mate!

Back in Black video ?
think Cliff had the Bird and Malcolm the Falcon in that one as well.
Could be. My memory ain't what it used to be. Actually, a lot of my 'parts' ain't what they used to be.:( <Edit> Yeah, I went and looked. It's the "official" video, which seems to be from the same taping.

Never played a Casady but I'd think LaBella flats would be good and deep. If you need something deeper and darker I don't think I'd lean towards the VP. If your EBO has the mudbucker or neck pup up by the heel I would think it would be a good choice. For reggae I normally use my 2013 EB5 or SG Supreme or Fender Telecaster modern player.

Saturday night he was the centre of a 3 piece. With him was a woman on violin who also played accordion on a couple of songs and tapping sticks on another. Excellent, as was the bloke on bass. Even though he used a FSO Jazz he sounded nice :) , very economical and used a light touch. Even got a bass solo. Lol
JW was singing, acoustic guitar (he is a Maton ambassador), harmonica, a jaw harp and a foot stomp box thingy. Not all at once.

I think the VP could work with flats.
The EBO is a 67 with a mudbucker, but I should probably just bring the Casady and concentrate on learning the material for a few sessions.
Could be. I had Cobalt flats on my VP and they sounded wonderful but those are about the brightest sounding flats you can get. I did have Silver Stars (silver color Black Beauties) on for a while but wasn't that fond of them, no top end at all, too floppy and not that much bottom end either. I put La Bella black tapes on my Goth thinking it would make it sound nice and dark. Nope, plenty of mids and low mids but not ultra heavy on the bottom. So far I'm liking the Fender rounds on my VP best and I typically go for an ultra thick bottom end.

So I learned something new today. Ian Gillan was part of Black Sabbath for a short period of time.

They went through quite a period of personnel swaps... even had Cozy Powell on drums and some-singer-I-forget-his-name for an album. It was a slumpy period for them, it was clear they were struggling.
But they're still here. Staying power.

I just put a drop D tuner on the pixie dust 2001. It's probably tempting fate, but there are just songs that need that low D to end on, but don't need drop D tuning all the time. I'll be putting one on the 2013 EB, too.
I put Hipshots on 2 basses, finally just tuned one of them BEAD. Still use the other hipshot sometimes.

Not a bass... but I added another beautiful body to the family this weekend
