If it was me and I was only allowed one, I would be going for the dark one. It's my own personal preference. If it needed to get past my wife, it would be 'burst, just like just about every other bass I own.

Although there are more efficient digging equipment, dozers can and do dig holes quite well.
Anybody ever mounted a strap end pin to the lower wing? I think it would balance it better and bring me a little more forward over top of it. Shorten the scale only in the sense of “reach”. I guess I should just say shorten the reach
Roger @Count Bassie has experimented with strap button placement I believe. There was a guy that used to hang here that moved the "neck" strap button closer to the lower wing. He was using a BlackBird I believe. Can't remember his name as he has not been around in ages.
I have one in line with the neck midway between both extremes

So, I'm in agreement with much of what has been said here. I think I can attribute the boominess largely to the new Terror Bass that I've picked up (the new reissue, not original), as that amp is simply dark sounding, and there was a bit of boominess with both the 'Bird and the Gibson EB bass, though much more noticeable with the 'Bird.
I agree that the build quality is exceptional, though I'm not in a position to speak on the factory setup, having bought it used. It currently plays very well, and the action is just right for my tastes. And while I didn't take a liking to the lack of note definition during our session, there were too many other factors going on for me to say that I dislike the pups. The strings were well broken-in (I have no idea what they are), so I was missing all of that zing that the EB had, and the note definition was a bit better once I moved over from the Terror Bass to the OB1 500, though still less than perfect. I'm hesitant to change strings just yet, as I plan on gigging with the VP this weekend, and want to see how it does in that environment before moving on to something more significantly tone altering.
So all in all, a pretty good session with the new 'Bird. A definite improvement over the Pro IMO, and a crazy value at the price I paid.

Black really shows fingerprints on my Casady so I went with the tobacco bust on my VP. But they are all lookers!

I've been on Laguna Seca - twice on a motorcycle (track-days) and once on a road bike. (Sea Otter Classic) Awesome technical track. Speeds are not as high as other tracks for that reason.

Me too - the big "wing" spoiler/airfoil on the E & F was a first. I watched a film back then about their first appearance at LeMonds (fave race - hands down) and they didn't win, but they came in second or third (for their first entry) and talk of banning the wing followed!

Tesla is a monster from 0 to 60 after that other super cars have a chance. The shocker for me when tracking a Tesla was how poorly it accelerated in passing mode (65mph steady then floored to 85mph) it just didn't feel like the same car. Again 0 to 60mph will happen in an instant but after that it feels much less dramatic, not very linear. I'll stick with the internal combustion pollution device for a while longer.

not to mention it's average handling..
If you'll be gigging the VP go with a color that will stand out. I always wore dark colors when gigging (black pants or dark jeans and a dark color shirt) so a white VP would be the best choice. If I was in a worship band and wearing lighter color clothes I'd probably go with the Black or burst VP. But because I'm not gigging anymore I actually went with the Black VP, just looked coolest with all the bright hardware.
