Thunderbird Club

I have no special insight into the financial workings of Amazon, but I have come to believe that a meaningful portion of its profit comes from shipping charges. If you select free shipping, they wait up to a week to pick your items before shipping. If you select standard shipping, which uses the same conveyance as free shipping, your items are picked, packed, and shipped within a couple of days. Amazon's shipping is the online equivalent to putting impulse items at eye level at the checkout.

Note:
This is not a rant or complaint, just an observation.
for 10 bucks a month, any size/price item shipped from anywhere in the CONUS arrives in 2 days guaranteed. that's some serious logistics infrastructure..

Part of the magic is huge warehouses all over the continent. Once they realize an item is selling, they stock it close to where it sells.

Sometimes even the free shipping items will arrive in 2 days.

I found a Tbird to noodle with over the weekend at a local shop... and it was quite fun. I'll have to play a few more to see if I like them enough to get one. Do these things come in fretless flavors? :roflmao:

I’ve never seen a Thunderbird of any brand come directly from the factory/builder as a fretless, but it wouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility to have a talented luthier either:

1. Removed the frets and fill them in like Jaco did on his Jazz.

2. Remove the frets and the entire fretboard, then install a completely blank fretboard of your choosing and radius it.

I’m sure #2 is the much more expensive option but it would be possible and you could have a very unique Thunderbird all your own!

So I have yet to see Rudy's carry
any vintage TBirds. But they do have all these.

We will have Amazon to thank when Alexa achieves sentience and renames herself Skynet...

And I for one welcome our new robot overlords.

Saw a short doc on "Sex Bots" - some ******** rich men out there...

Just because...

Larry, It was great to meet you and your wife and thank you so much for coming out! Sorry no Thunderbird action for this show the big post on my side of the stage pretty much ruled that out, I didn't want to whack the headstock against it. I wish we had more time to chat but we rolled into town in time for load in , did the show and got out of dodge. I arrived home at 6 am.

Headstocks are for whacking guitarists in the head.:smug:

Somewhere out there is a modified Thunderbird with a fretless fingerboard and a flame maple face. If I am remembering correctly it belonged to a bassist that played for Skinny Puppy. I want to say it was a 70's reissue that had a maple cap added and converted to fretless. I have not seen the bass in a long time and cannot find pictures, but our Queen or GOT may remember it from the Dude Pit days. I had a pic saved on an old computer but odds of finding it are almost zilch. So this post doesn't help you at all.:laugh:

I find that Thunderbird heads look lethal, but are really quite polite when it comes to beating things. The Precision is feral. It has a sweet voice, but I have to keep it chained up or it gets out and causes trouble. It doesn't just whack guitarists and singers. It beats up the neighbor's guitar, steals cigarettes, and generally causes mayhem. I love it anyway, even though I usually play a Thunderbird.

Now that I think of it, I recall a fretless Fenderbird on eBay years ago that I was interested in. It was in Florida and the guy said it was breifly played by Jaco... (of course it was) It was a black 70's Centennial bird that someone removed the neck (probably after it was broken at the nut) and routed it for a Fender fretless neck (also from the 70's) It was about $800 in 90's money and it was cool but I passed on it.
