I found a Tbird to noodle with over the weekend at a local shop... and it was quite fun. I'll have to play a few more to see if I like them enough to get one. Do these things come in fretless flavors?

Yes, if you mix your own. My fretless started life as a Pro IV with an active circuit and huge frets. It lost its frets, it lost its preamp, and it got Lace Alumitone pickups. It's a whole lot more fun to play now.

If you can get your hands on an Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro give it a try, it's the Best Buy in the new TBird line up in my opinion. And with the aggressive pickups it has it would make an awesome defretted bird!

It was one of the Epiphone flavors that the local GC had. The sound was great and it felt good, ergonomics reminded me of my P bass a lot as it felt really chunky. A good kind of chunky, lol.

It sounds like it was probably a bolt-on, and probably an earlier one. Those had big necks. Most 'Birds have noodle necks. A bolt-on should be inexpensive, if not dirt cheap for what it is.

It's an already liberated '71 routed all to hell with a B neck. I'm re-re-liberating it with new pickups.
Gonna mosey into the city here in about an hour. And the tort is being replaced with a gold anodized PG.

I did have a Jazz, but that went a while ago. As far as fso's go, i'm a Precision nut.

I have no special insight into the financial workings of Amazon, but I have come to believe that a meaningful portion of its profit comes from shipping charges. If you select free shipping, they wait up to a week to pick your items before shipping. If you select standard shipping, which uses the same conveyance as free shipping, your items are picked, packed, and shipped within a couple of days. Amazon's shipping is the online equivalent to putting impulse items at eye level at the checkout.
