Thunderbird Club

I was very surprised that so many people missed your sarcasm.

Yeah now that I look so cool with the low hanging blackbird I can pretty much skip that stuff... I think just showing up and looking cool will suffice for success.

Cool idea.

Playing a ridiculously oversized, pointy, high action bass for 30 mins makes the blackbird feel like a smooth little guitar.... good idea. I find that playing a lot of bass makes my guitars feel like 3/4 size guitars.

My apologies for not asking a little sooner, I'm cutting my teeth at a new job, I'd be happy to add you to the club. Lovely Blackbird there!

I did the cobalts (45-105) before. That added brightness factor only lasted two days. They were pretty dead afterwards. Playing in a punk band, i needed the grind to last longer than two days, hence my preference for D'addario - little cheaper, & last longer IMO. Also another reason i dislike EB strings with anger is cause, when i first got my epi goth bird - some 7 years ago, i figured i'll go EB route as they did work on my other bass. Had all strings on, & stretched them as i always do to break them in: The G & A snapped at the tuning post. Since then, no more EB strings for me.

I think that's a big reason to why they have a lot of artists: The play shows every night, tour extensively. They're good for one show, that's it. Endless amounts of strings supplied to them. I'd rather be on the road with a couple of packs of D'Add & have my original strings last the whole duration, than to go through strings every night. I do my own tech work too, Less i have to worry about new strings, it's just minor tweaking at that point.

This isn't meant to offend, nor have i taken offense of your 2 cents xD It's mearly my distaste, & bad exp with EB strings that put a fundamental strain in ever having that be my pick. on another note, they're not as stiff as the D'addario. I guess it does earn their slinky name well, but i figured once you get to a heavier gauge, it would start being stiffer.

Not to pick on you particularly; your post was just handy.

I appreciate the discussion around strings. I am starting to plan for a string experiment.

I think that the Midtown will either get the Fatbeams that I liked so much or perhaps have a try with SIT Silencers.

And I have been thinking about perhaps giving a set of Rotosounds a try on something. I had been having impure thoughts about Cobalt rounds, but your post has straightened me out about that.

I may put NYXLs on something because I really liked those strings.

Like(d) the sound of Chromes and Tapewounds for most of my basses. Didn't like Chromes on the EpiBird 5er('P' pup) so that's why I put the Cobalt Flats on it. The Chromes on the '67 were getting old so I put the Cobalts on it and have to roll off highs from the normal 7 to about 5 on the neck pup otherwise a bit too 'jangly' for what we do. I have 1/2 rounds on the LPB25 and am planning on putting Chromes on it-maybe. With the active stock Barts, I haven't yet found the right strings for it. The Chromes from the 5er are still here(I didn't cut them off)and I might put them on the Les Paul just to see how they sound. They were only on the EpiBird a short time so they aren't worn out. Oh, one other thing(Columbo), I only use the bridge pup-w/ the neck pup-on the Les Paul.<to clarify(sort of)>I don't use the bridge pup on any bass('67 NR, Epi 5er, Ibanez semi-hollow, 5quier VM Jaguar)except the LPB25. I hope that's as clear as the neck pup on an EB3.:smug:
Well, crap! I woulda sworn I took a set of Chromes offa the EpiBird 5er. Turns out they are 7ender 9050's. Still usable but not what I wanted-and not worth the trouble to put on the Les Paul 5er.:bag:

One of my favorite bird players, Nikki Monninger, is an EB edoarsing artist. I believe she plays Hybrid Slinkys. I’m guessing she has an endless supply of fresh sets. I’ve never had them last longer than a few months, even on an infrequently played bass.

Don’t you have a P you can put the Chromes on? I love a nice Pbass with Chromes.
