We tend to veer away from political content around here, even if it's funny. I've had an episode here with a couple locals over something I was in hilarity over, had to apologize to our crew. It even got into a little heavy pm session with someone... we got by it.

You’re missing the point. Politics is off the table here. I have to self-police my humor (even though I poke fun at all sides); it’s worth it to me to stay because it’s a great bunch of folks. There are lots of other places for political discourse.

Why is America the greatest country in the world?

Answer:

I like this vid, but I'm done talking to you about it here. It's just a general realm of topics to walk by, for reasons that make sense when you think of it in a more dynamic way. People get tweaked, and your own take on what's good becomes someone else's difficulty.

Just doesn't promote what this place is about, which is what's good about what we like here... mostly Thunderbirds. And associated topics. Including Tort pickguards, shoes, cars, wireless bras and tarty skirts...

Wheres the line? Short statements that touch on the truth but don’t actually reveal anything? Allude to something that would make us great but don’t explain anything.

I won’t bother if that’s how everyone feels but this is a world away from making some short silly statement screaming anti/pro trump or anti/pro republican/Democrat.

In my mind these are not political statements these are statements that refer to the nature of humanity.... the psychology of humanity....politics is a sideshow which I often choose to ignore as a whole.... humanity should be the grand focus. Is anyone her anti humanity? Should we stifle progressive discourse that makes us better human beings because it can be seen in the sad context of a too narrow or too broad definition of politics?

Politics is a popularity contest of popular opinion. The truth is statistically unpopular.

Ever seen idiocracy? At this rate every water fountain will spew Gatorade and all entertainment will consist of people getting kicked in the balls. If silly things is the limit of our allowable discussion I will withdraw.

If people can appreciate skipping what they don’t like and commenting on what they do.... since nobody will hurt from this input but many could benefit as I have... then I’ll continue with respectful caution.

We should aspire to intelligence not belittle it or let it make us feel inferior.

Or we can embody the definition of the problem instead of hoping to solve them. That’s enough for me captain buzzkills. I can’t see the problem however I do see a dead end if no one gets this in its entirety. I can only talk about neck dive and kids in the hall for so long.

You might be right.... I might be in the wrong place wasting precious time and energy that would be better spent elsewhere in life. Which really goes for a lot of my time spent on TB

The only benefit might be for me if no one can honestly say such things expand their mind for the better. Look what happened just talking about parents leaving their kids on a rock....it evolves into a more enlightening conversation... I don’t set out to spend hours contributing to major discussions. It blossoms out of silly stories and comments...kind of the cool thing about open forums and random conversations. Who sits down and attempts to explain such things...?

Hold on I’ll try to find a kids in the hall video.... that might be more on topic and less hurtful to our delicate sensibilities. Pass the metaphorical Kool aid so I too may drink to the socially suicidal death of our intellectual existence. Cheers.

It’s not that I don’t get it. I just don’t agree with it but I won’t argue with a majority if it exists and feels the same way. If that’s what everyone wants I’ll save my breath in general. Not likely to bother if we’re imposing limits with no clearly drawn line

Jeez! We all survived cars w/o seatbelts('course the cars were made of steel not Reynolds Wrap), occasional spankings, being sent to our room[today's kids have all their electronics in there-we had books],etc. And we learned stuff, like rule #1^.

While i didn't experience the steel beltless cars, & spankings. being sent to my room, i had books to read. Mind you, i'm only a 1/4 century young, but only had a computer when i started grade 7, & got a cellphone after grade 11. Not because i didn't want one, i just never paid attention to it. & even during high school while every one was on their phones, i was better off being outside & living. Having said that, in the last 2-3 years i've gotten back to doing just that. Enjoying my days/nights with reading books, writing music - or whatever passe through mind.

It's one of a few subjects that we don't touch on here, and we're not exempt from TalkBass rules in this regard. I'm treading very carefully because I respect everyone's opinion (including yours) and we have many participants from countries other than the U.S. that should be considered as well when the subject comes up.

I’m from Canada and the answer to the question if anybody actually watches the video is that statistically The United States is not the best country in the world. (Neither is Canada. Neither is ANY country. It’s a silly question and statement) It used to be and it could be again but attitudes such as some of the ones expressed here are the reason for the decline and what’s stopping us from ascending once again to greatness. I understand no one has the time or concern to actually understand anything...they just shut down in the face of buzzwords

To every countryman his is the greatest. To an intelligent human being... there is much more to consider. It is way to subjective even statistics are skewed and misrepresented.

Intelligence that affords understanding is what makes us great...it’s what makes everything possible.... the opposite is our doom.

Yeah, as many of you may have noticed, I am an economics aficionado and unfortunately, the practitioners often get comingled with politics and I too must self-censor. I was assigned demerits at one point for noting that by ignoring economics, a government was pushing its citizens to criminality. Plus all the good jokes and cartoons seem to involve politics.

I value the camaraderie here and even if we have different ideals in real life, we have some awesome common ground here.

It's one of a few subjects that we don't touch on here, and we're not exempt from TalkBass rules in this regard. I'm treading very carefully because I respect everyone's opinion (including yours) and we have many participants from countries other than the U.S. that should be considered as well when the subject comes up.

I will side with the will of this forum and this club but give it a day to be heard out. I’m really curious and just wasted my whole afternoon saying things that to me matter. I’d like to at least copy the content elsewhere first.
