knew he'd momentarily lose you with that one..It took a moment-or 2- to figure out "footy".![]()
I'm still pretty happy with the EB Cobalt flats on both NR Birds. I'm not playing them out a lot but they seem to be hangin' in. In fact, the ones with which I'm least happy are the 1/2 rounds on the LPB25.OK, ProSteels have been on the bird for a bit more than a week. They are broken in (actually, that didn't take too long). Observations so far:
They feel rougher than NPS. Not uncomfortable, just noticeably not slick like NPS.
The sound is scooped. I have been playing with EQ for a week trying to figure out what is wrong. Turn mids up to 2:30 or so and they sound good.
All things considered, the scooped nature is probably going to keep these from becoming a staple. If all stainless steels are like this, then I am likely to just stick with NPS.
'Course they're also the oldest on any of the 5 basses. Hmm. I think I see the problem.
Or this from RS Guitar Works. I really want one of these.Fvck yeah!!, Is that RedStrands?
No footy in Florida ?It took a moment-or 2- to figure out "footy".![]()
There's a lot of 'futbol' in FL. Mostly played and followed by younger folks and people from other countries where it's the most popular sport. I had a minor but significant injury in junior high playing soccer which has colored my opinion of the game.No footy in Florida ?
(it wasn't my eye)It’s tongue in cheek. (But I still think it was a bad naming idea.)Not a fan of the ‘real’ word in this context. Both are real, preference may differ.
Bit like a footy club. You can follow for 50 years but if you don’t agree with every move by the management / owner some will trot out the “not a real fan” diatribe. Pfft to that.
It wasn’t half voltage unless the amps had modified tube hester circuits. IIRC, they were running 10% to 20% off nominal. If memory serves, Eddie Van Halen's sound was hard for others to reproduce because he was using a Variac on his amps; setting them to about half line voltage.
Yeah, but if they'd named it something else, I wouldn't be on "Thunderbird Club" sharing my pearls of wisdom(or BS).It’s tongue in cheek. (But I still think it was a bad naming idea.)

That headstock shape hurts my eyes.Or this from RS Guitar Works. I really want one of these.

Sorry if I missed it, but have you tried what the guy in your avatar uses, the Rotosound RS66?OK, ProSteels have been on the bird for a bit more than a week. They are broken in (actually, that didn't take too long). Observations so far:

I have seen one or two that almost made me want one, but not a huge fan, no. Mainly I just never understood why they didn't give that bass its own name. It would make more sense to me if ithe design were a mirror image. I do enjoy messing with the NR lovers. 8^P
love this topic...I agree, the late 60's (Gen2) T-bird is it's own design. A few 'mirror image' Gen1 T-birds (I never liked calling them 'reversed' because they came first) have been made - they look odd. Another reason the Gen1 should not be called 'reversed'. (and I know why they are called reversed...)
Interesting. I've never seen anything about that, just that he ran the Variac around 90V.heaters of the 10 tubes were wired in series

what are you trying to find out?Can we start another thread about this topic? I’d really like to hear more from even more people.
I’m doing experiments as well but more to do with different tubes.... dual channel heads biased and tubed differently....I always wondered about the power supply...we use power conditioners but I’ve wondered if ther wasn’t some perceivable difference in an amp that wasn’t perfectly powered
