I have wenge/wenge necks on a couple of my basses. Fantastic necks! Unlike body woods on a solid body bass, different neck woods can make a pretty noticible difference in sound.
My rosewood neck basses sound deeper and richer than maple necks on the same bass, there's a little less attack but a bit more warmth. My wenge necks brighten up the sound a bit vs rosewood, but not as much as maple, and are a bit more mid range focused and a tad gritty vs creamy, great for cutting through a mix but still having some serious balls.
Warmoth makes a fantastic quality Fender liscensed neck. Nothing but good things to say about their wood selection and attention to detail on builds. I've purchased about a dozen from them over the years and never had a problem with anything. Also the most stable Necks I've ever owned, my oldest one has never needed a truss adjustment even after 10+ years.
Double the price straight off.

What about faux RW? Someone building a coupla Tbird copies got a Faux ebony and a faux RW fretboard and was pretty impressed.

Found a new set of Fender 9120 black tapewounds in the closet and put them on the Hofner. Big improvement over the rounds that were on there at least

Not rosewood. Not a great fan of binding and blocking to be honest.
I am thinking about the wenge option though as there would be nothing to do except mount the tuners and a string tree.

Steve Harris, too. I'm not interested in flats, but it's certainly a nice roster.
I 'looked' at them when I needed to replace the strings on my Ibby AGB200. I had a set of 7ender SS tapes on it but the silks went over the nut on E and G. Turns out that, while the bass is 'short scale', it takes medium length strings and I couldn't find Monels in medium. Wound up with D'Addario tapes.
I think it's time for another random, off base post from me. Nothing to do with anything other then, one crazy old hippie yank mouthing off.
Because I have been on the steel string experiment, my JC hasn't been getting much love. It misses me; I need to play it.
This one's for Duke. Yeah, might seem a bit off the deep end for some.
Obviously there's variation from unit to unit, but generally speaking wenge will be a bit heavier than maple and rosewood will be a bit heavier than wenge. That said, you can install light weight tuners and spec the neck with graphite stiffening rods, which will keep the weight down.
FWIW - I was worried about balance on one of my builds so I ordered both a maple/maple blocked and bound 5 string neck and a rosewood/rosewood 5 string neck. It was before they offered the lighter weight graphite stiffening rods, so the rods on both necks were steel. When they arrived the weight on the two necks was nearly identical. I ended up using the rosewood neck.
If you buy from their showcase of in stock necks they should be able to let you know the weight.
