What does "voicing" offer?

D800 manual:

'This active EQ control modifies the amplifier’s response from a more flat like curve (in the counter- clockwise position) to a more vintage curve (in the clockwise position) by modifying and shifting the frequency response in all regions with a simple turn of the knob. As the control is rotated clockwise, the low end increases and the high end increases while the midrange decreases and shifts upward. Common uses for the more vintage positions are the old school funk and slap tones, and rock tones where a rounder bottom and a little bite are needed. Experimentation is an important part of discovering the potential of this powerful tool.'

AKA 'scooping'.

Cool stuff. I felt the Voicing knob sucked all life out of my 2013 Gibson until I killed it completely. Here's what I liked.

My settings on a D800 using a T Bird are nearly identical to your picture

Pretty basic - I'd like to hear a side-by-side of this head and the Ashdown 800. (it has a few more tweak-able parameters) Another amp I'm curious about is the Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 (also very basic) - I see so many pro's using Aguilar.

Aguilar were big in Nashville for awhile. Not so much in at least 5 years. I think the AG700 and the TH500 are terrific amps, personally. I also endorsed Ashdown for a few years and quite liked their ABM series

I think similar to GK's Contour, which is scooping.

That’s all it is. For electric bass I’ve never met a contour knob I liked

The far right black T-bird (Epi VP?) hs is decidedly larger than the rest - having not had one in my hands yet it looks to be very close in size to my '64.

Yes the VP has a HUGE headstock that is quite noticeable in this lineup. I would love to compare this side by side to a 60"s reverse Bird, mainly because I would love to play a 60's model again.

That would be sweet to have a dedicated music room and have everything warm and cozy. Most of my crap is out in the garage, AKA “The Freezer”.

Get divorced. You can buy what you desire, put it where you like, and play it when you want. To paraphrase Mitch Hedberg - Look, this music room has an oven.

No idea about this one, but I was thinking that a Warwick RockBag for the Buzzard bass would probably fit the VP fine.

We are so spoiled - there are so many great sounding amps out there! I had an Ashdown for long enough to like it, but comparing a few similar heads? I'd have to have the few in question awhile playing them at home and live before I could ever make a concrete decision of which is "best" for my ears. What does "voicing" offer?

Actually, the voicing control is a range of mid settings, so it can go from a scoop to a mid bump. Doesn't work quite like the contour on the GK which is a mid scoop only on the my RB. Personally i like the voicing on the M6. But it's not to say anyone else would.

EDIT; Actually, @fasterpussycat described it's purpose and function quite well.
Edit#2; If that reference was actually regarding the M Carbine series.

IDK about that. I wound up getting a Coffin case for my NR 'Bird. I was using a Warwick Rockbag-inside dimensions: 55"x16" Decent padding, no name/model #

I think you’re dead on! The Hofner has low output as it is and the tapes ain’t helping that, plus I have to play with a lighter touch than I’d prefer. I’ll start poking around for different strings later tonight. Gotta get to a gig. I think the Gretsch might get the call tonight. It’s been on a long hiatus from playing

It's always justifiable if it turns it into what you want it to be.
