You know how in Florida they have the “Turtles” in the roads to designate lanes? The last time I was there I asked someone how they had them without the snowplows shearing them off.
I was met with a blank stare.

I suspected as much. Duncan's a great guy, and when I was building/modding amps, that and his PSU calculator were the only reasons I kept a Windows box around. I think I still have it somewhere, but it's been down so long[1] the disk drive is probably frozen.

It was a perfectly reasonable piece of equipment, the sound just wasn't for me. Honestly in 37 years my tastes haven't changed much, I still have my 1972 Marshall Major and Hiwatts are my main amps these days.

Totally understandable. I love the consistency in your gear/tastes, too. And from what I've heard in your videos, I'd be happy with that setup, too.

Evening all. It’s been a while, but I thought I’d drop by and say hello.
Still loving my epi birds, although the Tokai has now left the aviary.
I got an urge to try something new recently, but couldn’t go without twin humbuckers. So yesterday I took delivery of a rather nice Epiphone Les Paul Special. What a bass! The sound is huge, and it’s surprisingly comfortable to play.

It’s cool to see a 60s bassist playing a semi acoustic at the proper height! And what the heck is that?

If anyone could possibly be interested, here’s a soundcloud rundown of the 7 basses I played last night into Logic. Everything just straight into the interface, no tweaking of the sounds. It’s pretty ‘warts and all,’ with plenty of clams and lots of fret noise on the Hofner, especially. Both ‘Birds have dead strings, especially the Cataldo. I also don’t like the strings on the Drake. 8 bars with each bass.

Kinda proves each of us have more affect on the tone than the instruments, but in my mind there are distinct differences. The Cataldo with fresh BassBurners is a whole other world and often my favorite in these kinds of ‘shootouts.’ I was surprised at how contemporary the Hofner sounds, despite the clacky tapewounds. The Drake still sounds good to me despite having truly crappy strings. The EB3L has the coolest throaty mids of the bunch, but is a bit wanting in the lows. Great for recording though. The Sabre will almost certainly get new pickups and will be switched to passive after hearing this. I’ve always thought a single master volume for multiple pickups is a terrible idea. It’s still a neat bass though. The Gretsch with Black Beauties is cool, but sounds better with Cobalt flats, etc

That is the correct height. Ronnie Lane and me are/were the same height.
