Thunderbird Club

The variety at GCs is so wide as well. One GC near me has every cheap Fender made, a few American Fenders and a handful of Epis. One Gibby SG bass. Another one, 20 miles the other way, has Two Gibby t-birds and two or three SG style basses. Plus one or two Epis. And then there's a third in my circle that have literally nothing for bass other than Squiers, Schecters and Ibanezes.

I just did an exhaustive search online for a reasonable price to replace my D'Addario Chrome Flat Wound D string.

Strings By Mail was the best I could find at $8.54 shipped. I probably should have asked here first but where do you guys go for strings, packs and singles?
I buy most of my strings from BassStringsOnline.com I'd love to buy local, too, but there's a very poor selection here.

As for your intonation issue on the B string. Have to tried shortening the saddle spring to get more room, or is it bottomed out against the backplate already?

Thanks Mark I feel the same.:) Me and Tbirds go way back I have been playing them exclusively since '76. I got my first NR in '78 and never looked back. I don't have a exact count but I have at least 5 60's NRs and 15 others Thunderbirds of various stripes.

Got my 1st ('63 T-bird II) in '76 also - it was later stolen. Here's a pic on the day in '78 I got its replacement, a '64 "closet classic". Still have it. (to put a time period on it this is a copy of an SX-70 photo!)

Lucky! I have 2 shops local to me (1 Long & McQuade & 1 local owned). L&M generally has some MIM Fenders, a couple MIAs, a few Squiers, NO Gibsons, and 1 Epi EB-3L that's been there for over a year.
The other shop has 1 Dingwall, 4 Corts, 2 G&L Tributes, a handful of Warwick Rockbasses, and a bunch of stuff on consignment (all WAAAY overpriced).

I know this may be a question asked a million times already. I'm looking to change the pickups of an Epi TB IV. Question is this: Most replacements are meant for Gibson TB which only has 2 screws while Epi has 2 in one side and 1 on the other? Is there any adapter for this or would I have to take to a tech for routing?

TB Plus pups will fit a bolt on neck Epi with minimal work, use some dense foam and drill one new hole. You'll probably spend more time rewiring it ;)

Most of my basses have Rotosound RS 66LD one them. Fortunately these are available locally. Flats I use on Hofners and my fretless basses I buy off ebay, same for the occasional B string for the one bass I have strung BEAD. $8.54 shipped sounds like a deal to me.

Hofners?!? Didn't you just say you've played Thunderbirds exclusively since the 70s? Does Hofner make a Thunderbird model? Hey, come to think of it, that might actually be pretty cool... :)

I have a lot of basses but Thunderbirds get the lions share of playing time. Hofners,Fenders and such are fun but you will rarely see me onstage with them.

Thought about it. Decided against it. Been playing Filter's, "Hey Man Nice Shot" on the B string between D and G# and it sounds great. View attachment 428812

This is where the saddles are now.
Whoa! There's so much spacing available! Why wouldn't they have mounted it further back!?

Also, how are you playing a song that has a droning Drop-D with hammer-ons riff on a 5 string? It's impossible to be fast enough to get that D in between every 2nd note as you're moving down that chorus riff.
