Thunderbird Club

Just played a 2018 thunderbird that came stock with babicz bridge.... the neck on this one was not as wide from side to side and thinner from front to back... felt more like my Blackbird than some of the thunderbirds I’ve tried in stores. Really nice. I was suprised. Volume, projection...notes just flew off the fretboard

If only it was gold or had inlays.... amazing though.

I want to pop the babicz on the Blackbird for the obvious reasons and the last set of strings I put on it had the winding at the bottom slip past the saddle....which seemed to deaden tone yes I could move the saddle but it would mess with my intonation....

Will the babicz bridge get In The way of the optic grab? Not like Ive ever used it.
I expect it might. It projects past the dimension of a 3-point. Removing the opti-grab seems like a small issue to deal with. Throw it in the case in a plastic bag and leave it there for the rest of ever.

Thunderbird Thursday.
I think the orange and green compliment each other nicely.

I need to follow up on the PinkBird and see if there's any progress. Maybe the next refin will be orange. I have been getting the urge to make the 2001 a different color, but then, I'm nervous about disrupting it's magical nature.

what's the genre? were you involved in writing and/or arranging as well?

Loosely speaking, it’s ‘Americana’ music. They love hot jazz, Cab Calloway type stuff, mixed with other elements like indie rock, country, Klezmer, etc. Being their producer, they gave me a voice in arranging the stuff and I make a lot of suggestions about the writing, but am opposed to co writing when I’m producing anything other than my own bands

Sub-mix in front of the interface? Yeah, it reduces your post options, but the kick/snare continuum is so key to a good recording.

Given the two input limitations, sub mixing the drums before the interface is a great suggestion, I think. Enables a potentially bigger kick and snare sound. I’ve done a couple records using only two mics on the drums though and it worked just fine. You just have to accept the limitations. I have no doubt Kat’s stereo LDC thing will ‘work’ just fine. When I’ve done it, I use either an AKG D12e or and RE20 in front of the kick and my AEA R84 up top and move it around until I’m happy enough with the sound. I lose the stereo image, but stereo drums just aren’t super important to me on some records. I just send the mono overhead to a stereo bus (add subtle reverb/ambience) to spread the image a bit.

I trust that you aren't asking for any help in resisting spending money on music stuff from any of us.

Fair point. I just like to say I’m not gonna buy something in order to come up with more rationalizations before I actually do buy it

I say go for the mix down.

You just described the true meaning of life right there.

So long as it's heavy on the polyester and skips all that unnatural organic stuff like cotton, I'm sure it will work out fine.

Something nice and breathable like PVC, perhaps some chaps? There's always leather too........ The mind wanders...…...

Whoop, wrong forum to post that thought!

So really, the universe depends on this purchase...don’t see how I can NOT buy it now :/
