This guitarist sounds like the greatest thing since sliced bread. She's a guitarist who isn't overwhelming, isn't too loud, uses pedals to good effect and not just effect, is a sound engineer, and everything else. Dayum! You came out ahead after the mild guitarist drama wilderness you went through to find her.

And now it's possible that she's got the gear you need to do the recordings you want to do. She just keeps getting better all the time. She sounds like she takes the place of those 12 steps Mark needed to rationalize a purchase, all by herself.

She really seems to be tuned into what I'm trying to do. Our run through the other day was short, because in the space of a few days she went from being pretty much lost to 'that's exactly what I want, let's do the next bit'.

OK, super black-ops groom lake ancient alien off topic.
To the DB people here: What’s your opinion on tubes for DB amplification? I don’t see it too much. Coincidence?
Just don’t have the cajones to post on that side right now as TB club is the perfect microsm for all things low end. (And other topics as well.) ;)
DB sounds pretty good with tubes, but the point is making it sound like a DB, only louder. You want as accurate a sound as you can get, and that's what a modern, hi-fi solid state amp should give you. One that's worth two cents worth should, anyway. I have a lot of fun playing the DB through the original 360, but I don't use that for anything except my own entertainment and basement rehearsals when I need to Osterize the drummer. Playing shows, I use a DI and use the small Carvin for stage volume, or the small Carvin with its extension cabinet, or the 360 reissue that has a tweeter and can be a whole lot less colored. I also boost the high mids in a way that would make a bass guitar sound a bit tinny, but that lets the doghouse overtones bloom and allows finger noise, string noise, and fingerboard slapping to come through.

I posted over on the DB side for a while. They didn't seem particularly snobby to me, but then CroMagnons have no shame and don't notice things like that. It just wasn't as much fun or as randomly informative.

That’s about what I was thinking. Thanks for a well thought out post! And yes, I spend a good deal of time on the DB side, it’s just that I don’t always want to wade through all of the string talk and debates on what the “proper” way of doing something is.
Lots of good folk there, but a few can be D.B’s. Did you see what I did there?

Does she have a sister? A brother? Any fam at all in Texas?

See what you did? Nope. I am CroMagnon and don't notice.

Mid-Side (MS) Mic Recording Basics | Universal Audio

My initial inclination was to be as minimalist as possible but I actually agree that 4 mics is undoubtedly better. One thing I haven't done yet is discuss this with my fulltime pro audio engineer guitar player, as I've been too busy enabling her pedal addiction. She may have access to all kinds of gear.
If you’re going for 4 channels, you may as well get 8.

Tubes can work. I’ve used my PF-50T with Upright a few times.
I did a rehearsal with my BSX Allegra EUB through the PF-50T the other day and it sounded pretty good.

The DB guys can be snooty at times. I don’t venture there often myself.
