NBD--Used 2015 from the CME sale (sadly didn't see the one on TB before dropping the hammer). I play 70's blues rock with 2 very loud guitarists, one who likes a super chunky LP reissue, the other likes a PRS 24. My basses have to sound filthy and deep to cut through with these two, and many of my basses are just too polite.

I am experiencing the usual adjustments needed in applying a longer reach and floating my thumb between the PuPs). I play mostly PJs and rest the thumb on the split coil. I lowered the EB3 pickups on this T-Bird just out of the range of where they could sound "chorus-like" in the upper register. This bass is one ounce below 8 lbs and is balanced when lap playing.

I need to have something that can approximate a Jazz bass sound for several songs, so the coil tap switches on the T-Bird are much appreciated. I can't see myself rolling back the tone knob on this thing except for a couple of reggae tunes.

More important than dealing with the adjustments I will make to play this thing is that this thing makes my sorry old self look badass and puts me back to my 70's teenage self.

Generic Tbird advice - try a longer strap. A Thunderbird typically sits a bit lower - on you hip - and that balances the bird better and brings the neck in so that it isn't so much of a reach.

I didn’t especially like the sound of the drum itself. From there it was fun to blind test to see which one flattered it the most. I stuck to the rules of the test, kinda nervous I’d pick something I claim to not like! I wound up picking the AKG P2. Turns out I like AKG’s. The D112 sounded better than I expected. Occasionally I don’t mind em.

I watched another kick mic test that was super interesting. With the kick used, I hated nearly every mic in the test. Once they blended the whole kit in, I liked most of the mics

So 3 of us liked the P2 best? Must be a Bird thing.

I prefer hammers and blow torches as computer tech tools. They are always highly effective. Threaten the computer while firing up a blow torch, and the computer starts cowering and promises to behave better in the future. It works every time.

They're not all that bum of an aircraft. That model in particular is questionable.

Not entirely unrelated, I heard a story of a guy asking an EOD (explosive ordinance disposal) expert how he deals with the stress of his job. EOD expert says “there is no stress. I either get it right or it quickly becomes someone else’s problem”.

I have a good friend that is EOD. Many stories of walking up to bombs and taking the gloves and helmet off cause it was so big it didnt matter, he was done either way if the thing went off. He still does the work today but freelance for military bomb ranges, supper dry sense of humor, love that guy
