Thunderbird Club

Never had the chance to play one. Aesthetically, I’ve seen some I liked, but for the most part I don’t do anything quite so flashy looking.

Gotta head to an overdub session. Been literally waiting out by the mailbox for my Cloudlifters to show up. Thanks again, UPS :/

I'm one of those low action freaks. Both my Birds have stupid low action, no buzzing what so ever. I'm also not heavy handed, so i seem to get away with it.
You don't need to be heavy handed to leave a mark. I don't have the corrosive body chemistry, which means I have to exert effort in order to do any damage. So, there you have it.

We must have different standards on what constitutes mountains. I don't even see any steep hills in your photo.;):roflmao:

Yeah, wouldn't know a thing about mountains here.

Do you sell Fire Farm or are they strictly contract now?

I checked our vendor file Carlo, we do. I'm not familiar with them though. If you need something I'm happy to look into it for you.

There’s a certain price ceiling that I just won’t attempt to bust through. I think that new AEA cardioid ribbon mic is probably priced ‘fairly’ at $1,000. There are mics I’d pay up to $1,500 for, but they’d better be something very special. My AEA R84 is kinda at the lower level of high end mics at $1,100, but they can be found used for about $800 and knowing what I know after years of owning one, the price is a steal. Every major engineer owns a pair and they compare very favorably to mics that cost 4-5x as much. That’s one mic I can honestly say is worth every penny.
But like you, I prefer finding more esoteric, undiscovered pieces of gear. But I’d also rather brag about how little I paid for something than how much I paid, being the product of a blue collar upbringing and all :)

Know what you mean. Even if I had the dosh, I would still try to find the item at a lower price ... and I like recycling kit.

I just got an email from Andy - there's a coat of color on the PinkBird as of today. It's got to cure for a bit before the next round, and he doesn't want to touch or even take pictures of it (maybe it goes to eleven) until this evening or tomorrow morning. Progress. Photos to follow when I get 'em. Easter bunny is on the way!

I totally get that. I also love that a good T Bird can be directly plugged into pretty anything and will sound very nice.
Your proclivity toward ribbon mics is smart because one of their best attributes is that they’re more forgiving of less than stellar rooms
And look the part doing it.

My proclivity toward ribbon mics started as an ornery streak, and then blossomed from there because I found out how good they could sound.

Well, shoot. I guess my GAS list just got another ribbon on it. Good thing I'm happy with pretty much everything else I own. I really want to try an AEA cardioid ribbon, too.

My twin said it best - [wimper] Which translates to, oh, well. I got what I got, and it isn't likely to change.

In the end I decided that buying a pair of the entry level Rocket mics was a false economy. In the demos you can clearly hear the modded version is much more detailed and has an extended frequency response -- all for $US320 a pop. The difference in cost (and possibly more) would have gone on a vocal mic anyway.

Rainier is NOT a dormant volcano. It's not particularly active these days, but it's officially not dead. When it goes pop, it's going to make a bit of a mess around here. The chances of it happening soon are about, uh, I dunno. Not gonna worry about it.

No doubt it'll blow up the same day I buy the 10K Thunderbird II at Emerald City Guitars.
