Thunderbird Club

You can even see the stains from squashed out cigarettes and lies from beer bottles on the top. :smug:
Well, of course it's a great sounding bass guitar, thick and punchy. The neck is very strong, no adjustments necessary. Very very reliable - that's what I need especially on stage.
It took me some months saving money and selling stuff, but now I'm so happy with it. I know Oli Lang a couple of years now, from the first time we met I wanted to get a bass guitar made by him. He's a very nice person (I really mean it!) and I like his way treating wood. It's all a bit raw, "earthy" in its way. You don't need to handle it like a raw egg. He made the design on my statements, way before I was ready to order. Then he came up with it and I couldn't do anything else but get it. :)
So it's a part of a bird, a Rick and even a P. Best of all worlds. It even sounds that way.
Simply great.
(I still own an Epi Bird IV, but it's very "frankensteinized" and remains in the practice room for case of emergency.)
Great story, cool bass.

I posted this over in another thread by mistake... heh...

@JJR58 and anyone else who might be interested...
Plugged the new Bird into the Elf for a bit this morning. I've got it slung pretty low, so my right arm doesn't have a lot of bend at the elbow, but my playing positions for r.h. are still comfortable, i.e., both pup's as thumbrest, and right at the butt of the neck.
It's a lot of axe! Spans from head level down to mid-thigh- that and the shape seem to work together to make this a fun instrument to wear and lean into.
Sound-wise it's "warmish" and punchy, and doesn't have the rubber band quality of my P Bass when played without eq treatment. I really like what happens when I dig in hard- it just makes more good come out of it! The harder I play the cooler- not dirtier- it gets. I love that.
It's a very friendly neck, super nice to get around on. I have an easier time with the riff, for instance, to The Analog Kid by Rush on this bass than on the Fender, or the Squier Jag beast.
The setup is pretty good, neck seems to be tweaked just right, got lucky there. I think this Bird is in generally good shape, some dingage notwithstanding... judging from some evenly distributed light damage, I'm glad whoever had it went and put er away before something lousy happened to it.

The bass has a good vibe to it. If I didn't know better I'd think this Bird landed on my shoulder and decided to stay. Rescue Bird.

I'll be back with another comment or two, and will definitely be playing this at our gig next Friday!

The obvious happened. It knew. And now it's telling you.

Have a session tomorrow a my buddy’s bike shop. Gonna use some of my new recording gear and a decent sized pile of ribbon mics. Made my first attempt at the mid/side miking technique on a...clogger :)

The first people who sprang to my mind were blues and blues-rock people: Eric Clapton and BB King, then Alvin Lee...

Clapton, when he played Gibsons and took drugs......That's when he was good.

Cool, thanks you guys! I went back in to plug it in, sounds like it'll be ok! Didn't expect this at all... I had to go to Trader Joe's to pick up their non-clay, non-dusty kitty litter, and of course GC was on the way. Pulled in for a mere perusal/lark/waste of a few minutes... utterly had no intention. I'd already bailed on the other two.

Thanks again for the enabl-- I mean support!!

And now home, to put something on Craigslist... :)

Congrats on the new Bird!!! She is a looker! If I could make a suggestion, I would recommend skipping any body "modifications" on this one. Brass guard might look good on there but I would leave her intact. If you hit a rough patch and need to flip it, you will get your money back if it still looks like this. Just my 2 cents.

No, I'm happy with this one just as it is. I'm keeping the mojo intact, but I appreciate the suggestion!
(Edit... the Blackbird body was more of a palette, I thought, than a finished, proper Bird. So I had a run at some decorating... not this baby though. Thanks for looking out!)

Slightly after 0200, trying to catch up on the important things in my life after a gig. 7-11 but had to leave home @ 5:30 to set up and after tear down, indulge in a gourmet meal(boneless lemon pepper chicken wings at Checker's)then watch some hockey. Played the EpiBird 5er through the R200c at an American Legion. Bass/amp sounded great, crowd loved us, chicken wings were fresh and the hockey was interesting. All's right for the night.

With all this talk of microphones, you need to hang this pic in your studio...

Dang Duk, you're not careful you're gonna end up being a producer and engineer on top of everything else. That's rad.

I’ve produced a ton of records and soundtrack stuff...I’m a dang Grammy loser, I’ll have you know!
I always used amazing engineers. Now I really just want to get better at engineering myself, though I have no desire to be a full time engineer.
Hope your gig at the 5 Spot was great! That’s my local watering hole, but sadly I was out of town for your show
