Thunderbird Club

Another that won't end well. At least you are smart enough to bag it before wasting an hour explaining what a standard twelve bar is.

First band I was in started out as a 5 piece -- vocals, 2 x guitar, bass and drums. The thing was, the 'lead' guitarist spent all his time listening to Carlos Santa and John McLachlan and whatever, but couldn't play a rhythm part to save his life. Nice kid but he had to go.

We had an old bird cage hanging from a tree in our backyard. My dad would put birdseed in it-birds loved it, but at night rats would go for any seed that was left. So my dad wired it to the 220, would wait 'til a rat or 2 got in there. Then he'd plug it in and make a noise that would scare the rats into climbing up the hanger. At which point they would describe a graceful arc to the ground, usually somersaulting all the way.

As you are aware we are looking for a new singer. We have heard from four people. Three who supplied links so we can tell if they can sing in tune or not. The other *wrote* a few hundred words ... but was unable to offer us a preview. She prefers to 'live in the moment' and 'explore methods of maximising the potential interplay between all instruments' -- life is too short.

alright then!

Big crowd for a late Thursday night! First time I've played there; hope we'll do that again soon. I work over that way but I'm not real familiar with 5 Points. Neat area! I swear I'm gonna get out and see you either with Da Bros or D. Hoke. This shall happen!

Will be great to meet you in person!

LONG day today. Checked out of the hotel quite early in Memphis. There was a terrible accident on the interstate and what is normally a 3 hour drive home, took over 6 hours. Unloaded the van, gathered up all my recording gear and headed to my friends bike shop to record Mike Lynch. In my rush I forgot a couple things, but remembered most of the important stuff. Went with a simple Glyn Johns miking setup on the drums. Stager SR-3 on the overhead, R-84 on the side OH and the D12e on kick. Thought I’d mic the snare, but decided against it. Everything sounded fine to me. On the guitar amp I used an RE-27 just off the cone, the Avantone CR-14 about 18” back from the amp and a DI just in case we want to re amp or something...safety net. Ran the bass direct as I planned on re cutting that later anyway. I think between the API pres and the Stager mic, things are an improvement over the last recordings I did with them...will do rough mixes tomorrow to find out :)
