2) Tucky Buzzard, warming up the crowd before Earth, Wind and Fire took the stage to warm up for Uriah Heep. They were decent, but nothing special. They seemed to be trying real hard to be another band or two, and who they were trying to be depended on the song.

I went to an 80s fest at Chastain Park in Atlanta. If anyone is/is not familiar, it is famous for having way too many 6 seated (or 8 maybe?) tables in the pit that people can buy for the package concerts. In addition to having people in attendance that are not familiar with the band b/c they bought the table, they bring full spreads, wine and cheese wheels, other snacks/beverages, candles, tablecloths, lazy Susans - you name it - and are often more interested in their own conversation and hand bags than the music. I'm sure people are also on their phones, too.

Anyway, as you can imagine all of this distraction from the stage can seriously piss off the bands. I've seen everyone from Duran Duran to Joan Jett at this place and it is always the same. Most bands make the best of it. Some do not.

Morrissey did show up so I will give him a pass. He was making fun of people eating meat from the local Pig N Chick. It was great.

The worst were Modern English at the aforementioned 80s fest. They seemed genuinely surprised that people were not paying attention to them and made comments berating the crowd both in-between songs and during. They could not wait to get off the stage. Totally unprofessional IMO. And I was paying attention!

Not that hip hop s**t. Pure rock and and roll with some classic soul and r&b mixed in. And the good news is my kids listen to it too. From him I’ve learned about the Dollyrots and the Dahlmans, two bands I went out of my way to see and really enjoyed. Give it a shot Count. There is a diverse group of people who follow the LSUG promoted bands; 18 to 80. Pretty cool actually.

Big fan of the Underground Garage here. I had been listening to the free 2 hour podcast well before I ever had a car with XM radio. I have been exposed to a lot of bands that I had never heard of (or that I only knew by name) and I have purchased many CD's as a result of the exposure. The variety of artists on this station is fantastic! And I LOVE the fact that there are no commercials between songs. I know there are several others in this group that listen to the Underground Garage as well.

You should download a few of the podcasts to give it a chance Count. I think you would enjoy it. The podcasts and his station were a big reason I signed up for XM once I had a vehicle with satellite built in. Little Steven may well be a part of the big machine, but him giving a chance to unknown bands that have almost zero chance of getting exposure on any commercial music outlet earns him a fair amount of respect from me.

I concur. Through LSUG, I have discovered Dollyrots, Jessica Hernandez, and scores of others. Having said that, I do find that there is a great deal of preference given to artists signed to his label. Fortunately he signs good artists, but I wonder what else is out there that he passed on and I might like anyway. Still, I suppose the nature of the label; they promote who they sign and the others regardless of talent or my potential interest are (through neglect) consigned to the trash heap of history.

perhaps that is why the bands you like get destroyed?:D

That was one of my favorite things about Skynyrd. When they were onstage, they were who you came to see. Thus, even if they weren't, they generally became so.

I saw Paul Rodgers and Jeff Beck last summer. I was there to see Jeff Beck. But Paul Rodgers puts on a great show and made me really happy to have seen his part of the show.

I'll tune in again. Frankly my musical life is pretty bland these days, not nearly as vibrant as many here. I need to get that back- all work and no reasonable play is making me a very dull boy I think.

I can relate to that one. Last weekend was the first time i've heard live music since last November.
So i made it a point of going out Friday and Saturday night. Glad i did. All the bands were fantastic.
I really do need to get out more. :)

take your bass to jam sessions/open mics....one sure way to find folks to play with..

XM in the car, Spotify in the home and office. Ain’t cheep. But Over the last five or six years I’ve been so much into music that My only other time sink is baseball, which I still love. I’ve been exposed to tons of new, and new to me music through those two resources.
