Thunderbird Club

@GBassNorth, there's a real difference between the old setup -- where every session required starting again from scratch, with the repeated refrain of 'what's this, I've never heard this before' -- and the new ensemble, where we've made palpable progress in two or three sessions with the new guitarist. Tonight is the first full session with all band members. Everyone is pretty excited.

So... had rehearsal tonight.
This is my second outing with the TB.

To give some perspective on this opinion...my other bass (ESP fretless Bunny Brunel signature bass) is a monster flexible beast. I can pretty pull off everything with it.

But MY LAND. The growl. The punch. The SUSTAIN. I'm running with the stock Probuckers supplied on my VP. It is absurd how it just hangs. At our church this evening, the ceiling mounted subs mount bracket was rattling as a result of this particular instrument. They scheduled someone in maintenance to install some kind of insulation to fix it for Sunday.

I'm super impressed with it. Loving this bass.

My band (not the church team) plays a mixture of blues, classic rock, and country, and I'm exploring where to plug in with the TB. It's so extremely different that I find myself relearning riffs.

Sorry for the long post - but I wanted to really walk you guys through my feelings of discovery as I reinvent myself with this bass.

It's absolutely awesome.

That wasn’t long.
But it was exhilarating.
What sort of music do you play at church? We play a lot of Bethel and Hillsong, plus our own. I bring as many styles on bass as I can. Not nearly enough, but improving.

I stopped watching myself years ago, it got boring.

Seriously, I always get a good feeling when others succeed. Love to see everyone on this thread reach or even exceed whatever goals they've set for themselves. We all play one of the best tools ever made for this profession (and I really love the way you've visually personalized yours, too cool!) the only thing holding any of us back is drive.

On that note, I'm gonna hit the practice room for a while. Later gator.
:thumbsup::cool:

And I suspect there's a lot of club members here that are equally excited for you and your band. Can't wait until you guys (actually, is it now an all girl band?) put out some finished work. The messing about stuff was very impressive and that was without a full band.

Imagine some day in the not so distant future when you and your band are signing one of my basses after a concert, and me saying - I remember when Kat and her band were just experimenting with different sounds.

Here's wishing you and your artists every opportunity for success!

We play a good variety. Right now the directors are in a Tomli

Right now we're leaning heavily into the Jason Ingram / Matt Redmond style stuff. Not super complex, ultra acoustic driven.
It makes for a good case for the long sustain of the 'bird.

Books are bad for practice time. Arnold Toynbee. If you don't recognize that name as a time sink, consider yourself warned. I still have several years of dry as dust reading to do before he is done with me.
I know that name but no one in their right mind reads that stuff. Why would you torture yourself like that? Are you trying to atone for some unforgivable sin?

I wasn't going to respond, but thought about what goes through my mind during a performance. As it's my band, I'm generally assessing the overall sound as we're playing - how's the mix?, how's our tempo?, are the vocals loud enough?, are we too loud? how's the feel? Frankly I barely am aware of the audience other than after the song has ended - I ask "how's the levels?" because many times I can't tell from my vantage-point and sometimes there's no sound-person. (or there is one who isn't helping the situation) If my eye wanders to the others on stage, it's usually to make eye contact for a cue or to connect with them in our joint efforts. We're adults and we're bandmates unified in our goal to provide entertainment playing music.

Just having fun with what the eyelines could be.

The pink 'Bird should be on its way home in a week or so. Andy just asked what I thought it should be insured for. I had it out of mind somewhat. Not anymore. It is going to look so good that I'm going to have to dress better to play it.
Dress in all black, let the 'Bird steal the show.

Well, finally getting out in the morning. Making my debut as a (woefully underprepared) washboard tie player to accompany my tuneless baritone background vocals.

Anyway we are a bit undermanned hence the need for me to add my voice (more than I’d like) and add the washboard to the mix. A bit anxious.

I’d like to go to bed but seems unlikely for a while yet as the rissoles next door are having (yet another) party. Flick me - acoustic music is looking good, I’ve had my fill of doof doof and rap.

So anyway ... yeah, as @Nocturnal Andy says, the way you dress and so forth can be quite important if you are trying to carve out an artistic niche.

Crimson Sparkle have gone into lockdown. No more daft publicity-at-any-cost photos, no more dodgy Zoom recordings out there on the web ... and no open mics annoying people with loud music they don't want to hear at beer barns in the suburbs (distracts from pouring their money down the poker machines).

I completely relate to this mindset. Playing in two original bands, I often get tagged as being the "overly focused" band mate when it come to refining things to put out in public.

The truth of the matter is that since nobody in either band (myself included) can read, write music or explain anything past a major scale in anyway, we learn by repetition. So, stop talking about non-band stuff and play the song again until its "right"......:)

Try this look out.
