Thunderbird Club

You guys are slacking badly. It's Thunderbird Thursday and I'm the first to post :woot:

Blue and white Rockabilly polka dot halter top dress goes nicely with a Burnt Orange Metallic Mike Lull T4.

Now it's off for a some drinks and dinner

Nice look!
How's that drone workin out? Thought it would be interesting to have one to fly about 100 feet high and a quarter mile in front of my car as a lookout for speed traps on the highway.

I'm with you. Going up to 11 is more important than style. I would happily replace top hats with bells that go to 11 (top hats are not available in a form that goes to 11). But @theFixer hated them. I recall several amusing exchanges about knobs with him. Ahem.

And I still tag him in posts even though he has not been checked in to TB in 6 months. Just in case he does check in, he should know that he is remembered.
I got a set of BaCHbird pup's from him last year. Looking for a project for them.

I'm terrible at flying it, small one that it is. The Cat does not like it so I'm going to try to get better with it outside.

I always thought they'd be great for looking at work up on roofs, eves, other places you'd normally get a ladder or otherwise have limited access to on a house.
All kinds of cool uses for one of those.

The way he put it, it was weather checking and then delaminating. So, it's a problem that requires a respray, but what isn't obvious to me is why nitro would check and delaminate. He's been doing it a while, so I doubt it's a competence problem. My guess is there was some kind of proportion mistake or a prep mistake that caused the problem. Maybe the wrong humidity at the wrong time. I haven't used nitro, so I don't know what goes right or wrong with it. I also don't know how to interpret his description.

Aside from that, you are absolutely correct.

It's due to the intangibles of a nitro finish over poly. After realizing 'you don't know what you don't know' an experienced finisher generally only uses poly over poly to avoid Murphy Intervention.

Sometimes takes two or three WdaF? experiences before seeing the light.

IMO your painter has to completely strip the bird to bare wood and use a vinyl sealer as a barrier coat before his next attempt. If he knows exactly what went wrong he should be able to clearly explain. If he can't do that, how would he know how to avoid it happening again?

If I screwed up to this extent I'd be returning money and paying shipping both ways. You have to pay for your education one way or another.

Yeah, I'm a dick.

the appraiser used one of those to look at the roof when I sold my house in Newport (RI) 8 years ago...took him all but 20 mins..
over here they've become really popular for surveying crop health specially for wineries...all kinds of different after market lenses (including infrared) available...

He did strip it to bare wood. Being a Gibson, it was already a nitro finish, but I can't say what, if any sealer he used. I assume he knows what he's doing - yeah, ass-u-me. But, after the number of years he seems to have been in business, he ought to have had all the education he needs. But, having been a knuckle dragger of various kinds for years, I'm aware that things happen.

I'm not a dick. A local authority told me that I am a real ashhole. It was a compliment.

U need a NR.:smug:
That I do! But it's gotta bring a different sound to the table. I'm thinking a Gibby 2012 NR chromed out with Lulls or maybe an Eppi NR P/J with Geezers. I've got nearly every sound covered with the current line up, but an NR sure would complete the picture.

Flaunt it baby!!!

I was thinking more along this.
