Thunderbird Club

I rolled up to a car full of young women and forgot to put my feet down when the motorcycle came to a full stop. I almost fell over. They were unimpressed. They would have been unimpressed anyway, so there is that. I do not fess up to that one too often, but it is funny. I felt really dumb, and for good reason.

The closest I can recall to that was the first time I saw a C5 Galaxy. It seemed top just hang impossibly in the clear sky, almost hovering. I had just stopped my VF750F at a light when I saw it, and put my foot down in an ool patch without realizing it. I was falling, and was at about 1 45 degree angle before I realized it. I managed to shift my foot enough to halt the slide and wrestle the bike upright. I looked around in embarrassment but all the other drivers were leaning over their steering wheels, staring with mouths agape at the impossible sight. One driver was inching forward without realizing it but caught himself before getting out into traffic.
For just a moment, I thought we had a giant cargo jet with hover capability.
You might say I fell for it.

 what year?

Had a pleasant Sunday watching the now 41 and 19 Dodgers complete a sweep of the Phillies. Got the ‘15 more or less dialed in after the Cobalt Flats installation. I’m liking them so far. Decided on neck relief at .012. E and A strings a tad under 5/64 at the 17th and the D and G a tad over 4/64. Intonation is pretty much dialed in. I’ll check everything again in a week or two and may still play with bridge PU height.

Thanks for the info. Just tweaked my truss rod a bit for more backbow and dialed out all the remaining fret buzz by raising the saddles a hair.

So using your measurement locations, I'm currently at .011" action (E string depressed at the first and last fret then measured clearance at the 7th fret). So, pretty close to yours, I don't see it going any lower, may have to raise it a hair if the truss rod adjustment I made moves over night.

Again using your measurement locations I'm at 3/32" (6/64") clearance at the 17th fret on the E string. The A, D and G strings are all raised up to 1/16" (4/64") and that seems to pretty much eliminate the chorus effect.

I also fine tuned both pickup heights, which are now at 3/8" clearance across the board. I'll let it sit over night so things can settle out then I'll make any necessary final setup adjustments tomorrow. But it plays very nice right now. So I'm very happy.

Out of the blue, for a couple of years now, I start "fighting or running" in my sleep, according to my wife. Only once have I awakened during such a time, which was scary- in the dream I was about to punch a monster in the face. I awoke and stopped my fist mid-flight, heading toward my wife's head. That was scary. Thankfully I haven't hurt her! Usually she wakes up and moves away or just wraps me up too tightly to move until I calm down. We hates it my Precioussss.

Occupational hazard?

 what year?
Based on where I saw it, I was going home from one of two employers, which narrows it down to around 1986-1987. I know it had been out a while, but I had never seen one. I hadn't even paid much attention to cargo planes until then, at least since I was a kid. Suddenly I wasn't just interested in fighters and bombers. I just love military aircraft. (I wish we didn't need them, but they're still cool.)

...sorry, I meant what year was your VFR750F?

I have searched the web. I have searched (God help me) Talk:Bass, including the TB/TB threads. I found answers to my question. Emphasis on multiple (as in far too many) answers to one question. So I will ask multiple questions, hoping for a single correct answer for each.

  1. What kind and size of implement do I need to adjust my Epiphone Thunderbird IV (bolt-on neck, no other words in the name)?
  2. What kind and size of implement do I need to adjust my Epiphone Thunderbird Pro V (neck-through)?

From what I have discovered, I definitely need the same thing (an allen key. a thin-walled socket. a sousaphone.) for all Epiphones, and different things for all Epiphones. The exact size is always 4mm, 4.5mm, 5mm, 1/8" or 5/16". Always that one.

The internet is both a strange and wonderful place and a stupid and useless place, all at once. Thankfully TB is strange and wonderful, enjoyably useless on occasion, and the intentionally fun sort of dumb rather than the aggravating sort of stupid. Thank you all.

Both are made in not USA and so will use not USA measures. Any imperial measures would be close, perhaps even close enough. But metric will fit.

Some of us are just wiggly. Leg cramps are a whole 'nother issue. They are no fun at all when a calf muscle or foot just fires off into a ball of pain at some random time at night. I had those as a kid, and they turn up randomly even now. Staying hydrated helps, as does making sure there's enough potassium in my system (bananas). I will very rarely get hand cramps and foot cramps, and those are entirely a hydration issue.

No. And it turns out that it can be an indicator to be checked for diabetes.
One of the times I had the worst cramps, and most often, was when I was running the most (with lots of stretching). I had upped my hydration and potassium (among others) intake to account for the increased running- but not nearly enough. In my case it was mostly a mineral issue.

Correct, I have learned a lot the last couple of years about my diabetes, night cramps etc. One of the things I've is potassium helps but because a medium banana has about 30g carb I can't eat them. Salt is key. remember back in the day when the doctors were saying salt was causing heart attacks? well turns out its not so true. I was instructed by my doctor to increase my sat. I don't like regular table salt and haven't used the in years but I do use kosher salt. With my increase of salt, I haven't had a cramp in two years.:hyper:

Now watch, I will get one tonight!:roflmao:

Ah. VF750F (no R). 1983, the first Interceptor. Red and white. Almost more fun than I knew what to do with.

My bad, didn't notice the R was missing - there's one I've seen out here in mint condition.

I had to watch salt because of hypertension[1] that came with the diabetes[2]. But because I was working out so much and had lost a bunch of weight, I could eat more bananas. Since sodium and potassium are next-door neighbors in the same period (see below), it makes sense that a substitution might work.

No cramps for you, bud. Not that time of month.

1. Doing much better lately.
2. Totally healed! Yeehah!

I saw a red, white, and blue version not long ago. It looked pristine and sounded quiet but sweet, just as I remembered.

I cranked mine once with the mufflers removed, in my cinder block basement garage with the door open. I revved it some. That was a religious experience! Had the neighbor up the street been working on his dragster (seriously), I'd have taken it for a spin that way around the neighborhood. Against that big, blown V8 sound, nobody could have heard my bike. But I decided to play nice. Never got track time, sadly.

When I was originally put on blood pressure medicine, one of the things it did was lower my salt content and increase leg and foot cramps. More salt, including from pickle juice as was mentioned about twelve pages ago, got that back under control. It's proof we are not from this planet - everything we do screws up something else. Even when we do it to ourselves.

No diabetes for me - just type A personality that was needing correction.
