Where was I?

I want this thing, I like 'Bird Ho's.

Interesting. Scooped isn't an attribute that appeals to me, but the added brightness does. I like the feel of nickles, but don’t mind the dryness of the steels, as long as I can get the sound I want.

I played R66s for a very long time. I actually started with those back in the late 70s. But in the last couple years I’ve tried them a few times, and always disappointed with them.

I don’t know if it’s the relatively large number of good choices available today, or they just lost their recipe, but I’ve been unlucky with the R66s.

If you liked RS66s, then you are obligated to try Ken Smith Bass Burners (medium).

FWIW I think you'd probably rather have a new, perfect one anyway, and, of course we're only too happy to help you spend your money.

Haha, I would definitely prefer a new shiny one. Just curious how low Level 2 goes... and if the "leftover" could cover a case then that would have been a bonus.

Sorry for the repost. Bringing this one back to the daylight, hoping someone is familiar with the designation:

Invalid Link Removed

Any way to tell what's up with this one? What does Level 2 signify? It's a pretty good discount off a (presumably) clean one.

When I click on the link I'm looking at a new one for 699.00, so I'm not catching it.

I didn't see it this morning either. Just the new model at the normal price.

ESP Navigator, I haven't looked for one recently, Japan is probably your best starting point.

I haven't seen one of those in ages either but the last one I saw was in Japan many years ago.

So.... Round Wound Strings....

Several gigs, and lots of time at home with the T-Bird since it arrived in May.

When it comes to rounds, I’d been using Dunlop Super Bright Nickles on all my basses. Whether 7ender, EBMM, Rick, Warwick, I’ve grown accustomed to the 45-105 gauge and the somewhat low tension feel. They seem to retain a decent round sound, where I want that, for a few months. This amounts to ~25 or so gigs.

When the T-Bird arrived, I put those same strings on it, and headed out.

I understand now the range of tones I can get from the T-Bird, and I’m very happy with it. Typically, I play half the night on flats, and half on rounds, just to cover sonic territory. Right out of the gate, the T-Bird allowed me to stay on that one bass most of the night, if not all night, which is nice. Not quite into P-bass-with-flats territory, and not quite into J-bass-with-rounds, but happily in between them. But I do want a little more up top capability, so I made a string change yesterday.

Sticking with the same brand and gauge, just moving to stainless, appears to give just enough more bite that I think this is going to be what I want. Two gigs this weekend will tell me for sure, but I’m also interested in your experience on this topic of rounds on the T-Bird.

Thanks for listening...and sharing.
Thanks for that. I got a set of Super Brights thrown in when I got the Goth some weeks back. I’ve not tried them before. I ended trying Black Beauties on the Goth, primarily for shallow aesthetic reasons. They sound pretty good on it. I’m thinking I’ll try the SBs on my Foundation.

That’s what I’ve used since the seventies on the short scale Silvertone in my Avatar which, sadly, doesn’t get much playtime.

Hey! Ahem!
th

Not you. It was @JJR58 suggesting that some of us are "round"

[edit] the skinny bastard.
Well, ya gotta admit that your selfie is shaped a lot like your minion avatar.:roflmao:
BTW - please put the coconuts back on.

Ride 'em!

Once again proof that TBird necks don't dive, there's not a bit of droop in that baby!
Your best pic ever! Should be plastered on the bands drum skin with the word Nasty at the top and Habits around the bottom. :smug:

BTW - you so need to lose that Photobucket stamp. Ruins a perfect picture.

Yep, met up with our very own CS earlier - dropped off my Ashdown 550 Spyder for him to repair. Great meeting Chuck in person after 'knowing' him on-line here. Of course we tried out all of his birds, two of which I'm seen with - a very nice collection including a couple of J's and a sweet late 70's Gretsch. (behind me in the 1st pic) :bassist:
