Thunderbird Club

Well, check the sig line:
Being a member of the Tbird club led me to hate Tbirds so much that I sold mine and fled the club. The narrow minded immaturity toward Fender is astonishing and gross.

Don't know what happened to create that attitude. But, I can't imagine any way that what someone says about something I enjoy that would make me not enjoy it. Of course, I am a misanthrope so I care very little about what people say. As I put it, I hate people although there are individuals of whom I am quite fond.
Scrolling through quickly, I missed the tag line. Oops!

Hopefully they will. I gots no problem with the guy-or anyone-being proud of his collection. And I don't hate FSO's. Don't want one(yes, I have that Squier SS-as a backup; shoulda kept my EB-3*). Not my cuppa.
*I had a 66 Gibson EB-3. It wasn't being played. I figured it should go to a good home so I sold it. Within a month, I developed a need for a short scale for some of our gigs. The TBird is too long[the headstock woulda been in the drummer's ear]and the Ibanez wasn't right for the material being played. I s'pose I coulda used the LPB-2/5 but it's heavy. So I bought the Squier:banghead:

Funny...and really odd. I remember him as a very cool dude who made really interesting music. Doesn’t seem like one to troll. Not like he’s totally wrong about fender haters here sometimes. The tort thing is beyond tiresome and way too predictable. Still, it’s a rather extreme reaction. Personally, I love Fender basses and was a P bass guy most of my life. I just happen to love T Birds a whole bunch. That’s why they make different colored shirts, I reckon :)
There are different color shirts???

I put those Cobalt Flats I got, 55-110, on my Fujigen Pbass, played a funky reggae trio gig last weekend with it. Frikkin' thing slew the place. Tight, heavy, deep thump, real nasty presence (lol, meant to say "bassy", but it still works!) and a smacky top end. The Bird will likely benefit from a set too.
You cats have got to stop with the Cobalts!!! I got rid of my sets because they didn't do anythign for me, but y'all are pushing me near the edge to try them again....

I love em, but if they ain’t for you, they ain’t for you :)

Yeah, black and white.

Jeff...

Got my first Gibson Thunderbird a few days ago. It's a 2005 Studio. Weighs in at just a bit over 9 lbs. (9 lbs., 0.4 oz)! Put some GHS Precision Flats on it and it sounds great!

I've been a Fender guy for decades. Still am, but I'm pleasantly surprised with this T-Bird. Looks and sounds great, and is fun to play. Not as uncomfortable as I thought it would be, either. Definitely different than my P's and J's, but I can tell already that I'm really gonna' like it!

It came with the original Gibson case. Never thought to see whether it will fit into any of my gig bags. I'll have to check tomorrow. If it fits in any of them, it'll probably be the ProTech Contego; but I'm not sure if even that one will work. Just going back and forth to practice and jams I prefer a gig bag, but might have to use the case with this one. Anyway, here she is:

Congrats! Nice bass!

Another unwitting player has fallen into the vortex of the back nest of the Thunderbirds. You can't get out, so don't try!

Ain't sayin' they're fer everyone. They give me all the tones I want with a small twist of the tone knob. Thanks again, Jeff!

Some of my favourite bass players play Ps and Js (and some play PJs). I have my one FSO (a Yamaha; those are very under-rated) but I know that Fender/Squier just isn't me. I like my Thunderbird. But I also like my JC, Midtown, and EB-3. My go to bass, when I am not sure what want to play is the JC. And the JC is the one that I get the most compliments on (`cause it ain't the playing); there aren't enough good things to say about it. Just such great low mids. But semi-hollow isn't for everyone.

My teacher plays 7ender/Squier almost exclusively. As he puts it, he is a very conservative player and those are the most conservative basses.

Until all the digital offerings supply liner notes and such, I can't take it too seriously. Plus I still prefer the ritual of actually putting an album on, be it CD or vinyl.

I still buy vinyl. Having a record player and a place to put records is a joy. So is the ritual of handling a record by its edges and label, cleaning it, and gently lowering the needle by hand. It's also a way to mark the passage of time. A record side is between 20 minutes and a half hour.

My son was indoctrinated into this, but he's in remission for now. When he's old, like me, maybe he will enjoy the zen of records. I know he's interested in vinyl, but he doesn't have a place for them or a turntable.

TBH, I think that's a boy thing. The Eroica is the Eroica.

I think you have every color of the spectrum in your shirt in your avatar. :)

Nah, I have no interest in them. Raw-sounding roundwounds are my bag.
