Flats on a Bird........... The never ending can of worms. Me, yup. I like em on mine.
But all my basses are strung with flats.
I like them as well on most of my basses. Fender Flats sound killer on my '76, which also sounded good with TIs. Thinking of TIs or GHS Pressurewounds on the VP. It may seem counter intuitive and illogical, but flats do sound great on Birds! But I could be happy with flats on almost everything.

I had never played flats but always hoped to. A couple of months in with the Ernie Ball cobalts, I see no reason to try anything else.
Ooooh man...you have got to find a good Pbass with flats and play it in a live setting (home or a music store won't do). You may not like it and that's certainly OK. Like any string, they don't always sound good through every amp, and more importantly cab.

An expensive experiment with the TI’s. Those are a love or hate thing.

Always gonna be a Thursday, or something.

P with flats through a 360 is a little murky. It does shake the earth.

Cobalt flats on the Birds, and a '71 Precision. And TI's on a Nate Mendel sig.
I put those Cobalt Flats I got, 55-110, on my Fujigen Pbass, played a funky reggae trio gig last weekend with it. Frikkin' thing slew the place. Tight, heavy, deep thump, real nasty presence (lol, meant to say "bassy", but it still works!) and a smacky top end. The Bird will likely benefit from a set too.

Got my first Gibson Thunderbird a few days ago. It's a 2005 Studio. Weighs in at just a bit over 9 lbs. (9 lbs., 0.8 oz)! Put some GHS Precision Flats on it and it sounds great!

I've been a Fender guy for decades. Still am, but I'm pleasantly surprised with this T-Bird. Looks and sounds great, and is fun to play. Not as uncomfortable as I thought it would be, either. Definitely different than my P's and J's, but I can tell already that I'm really gonna' like it!

It came with the original Gibson case. Never thought to see whether it will fit into any of my gig bags. I'll have to check tomorrow. If it fits in any of them, it'll probably be the ProTech Contego; but I'm not sure if even that one will work. Just going back and forth to practice and jams I prefer a gig bag, but might have to use the case with this one. Anyway, here she is:

Speaking of strings, the first bass I ever played was an FSO (I forget which but probably a Jazz) with black tapewounds. Probably 1979. The owner referred to them as "nylon coated". All I knew was that I tended to slide between notes for certain things, and those strings gave me first degree burns in no time flat. I played bass on three songs we (a duo) did, and my bass playing got real simple, real fast.

Cobalt flats are a great flat to try on a TBird for those that don't normally like flats. They are about the least flat sounding flat out there. Can't speak for all birds but they are absolutely fantastic on the VP.
