Thunderbird Club

You could SURLY fit a Bird case in the back of this trunk! Wow - love this car.

And you could certainly fit your Bird case + backup Bird in this one!

... Not so much. But props for coolness factor.
If you really try, you can fit a Thunderbird hard shell case in a Smart car. JUST made it.

Thunderbird Thurdsday, Lull project bass...still unfinished body, supertone bridge, missing extra tailpiece, neck angle not perfect yet, sustain not sufficient, but balances perfectly...work in progress....

Wonder why you're not getting the sustain you want. No issues with mine.
And that bass looks great.

First thing that came to mind was that. Is there much of a gap in the neck pocket?

Purchased the neck as a „maybe original 60s neck with repaired headstock“, maybe that‘s right....there was no gap in the mike lull body...fits any 7ender style neck....

...me too... maybe the bolt on neck...

My bolt-on Epi has sustain for daaayyysss... That was a huge, pleasant surprise in the store and factored in to my wanting THAT ONE to take home. Maybe every Epi out there is just as good; it wouldn't surprise me. But this one felt magical. One might even say it chose me, but nobody here would ever say that. ;)

Exactly what are we looking at? (Lull?) The headstock looks odd and even with a blurry pic, the neck in the neck-pocket looks more odd. ???

...it‘s an unfinished project...there will be a solution, i‘ll keep you informed....

...Lull shaped body, came from Tacoma, neck doesn’t fit perfectly...still some work to do...

Indeed  it's a Gotoh GB7 Bass Xtender and was a simple swap, no modifications needed

Ah, I should have been more specific. The tuners on an Epi VP are a kind of Wilkinson I haven't seen before and the specs don't quite match those on their site.

Was also thinking of some Gotoh Resolites but again, don't really see a match. I have a leftover GBR640 and while it fits the hole, the key goes up higher and I'm not sure I'd actually fit all four on there since he baseplates are a fair bit larger.

I don't think at this point I will find an EXACT match but I do need to make sure that whatever I get fits. hmmm....

Here's a fully reversible mod that literally came from a dream I had. The '51 Precision bass was always one of my favorite tones and since it didn't require any cutting on my Epi T-Bird Classic IV Pro, I had to give it a go. Absolutely love it. So now I'm the happy owner of a P-Bird! Turns out neck-thru mahogany works great with a SCPB pickup! Disclaimer: in order to get the standard SCPB pole pieces to line up perfectly with the strings, I did have to slightly trim the base of the pickup on opposite corners (about 1/8") just so I could get the right angle. But I honestly like the idea of having the poles a little closer toward the neck on the lighter gauge strings to fatten up the tone a bit there, relatively speaking. I realize the open bridge cavity, unplugged volume control hole, and showing pickup leads might bother some -- and I did think about making a cover and mounting ring, maybe installing a mini-toggle to select between two different tone caps -- but after taking a step back, I honestly dig it just the way it is.
Don't get me wrong, I've always been a fan of Thunderbird pickups with a nice set of heavy nickel roundwounds, but in my current band the SCPB pickup with flatwounds just fits the bill.
On a sidenote, as a result of this happy metamorphosis, the USA TB Plus pickups from this bass have made their way into the TB classifieds, just in case anybody is looking for a healthy set.
Anyway, hope you guys don't hate me for genetically engineering this bird! I swear it felt no pain ;)

A stroke of genius.
