it's class A, based on Dick Denny's Vox AC15 design....don't need to measure currents or Voltages if I have the amp power spec, schematic and tube datasheet...Cathode bias isn't necessarily class A. And if they're truly getting 15W from the amp, they'd really be pushing it with class A. Well, depending on the tube brand. Did you measure voltages and current in the output stage?
I designed a clean 7W single EL84 amp; I spent hours and hours testing tubes. I forget now what I settled on, but there were only 2 or 3 brands that would handle the abuse and sound good. I was working on ways to switch between a baby Twin clean sound and a more Kalamazoo Model One dirt but never came up with anything I was happy with. I did mate an Orange preamp with both a VOX AC-15 output stage and a Fender Deluxe output stage. Loved both of those.
