Additionally, bummed about this. Knew it was coming, but still. He's one of the reasons for me picking up a bass versus a guitar. My dad introduced me to Hawkwind when I was 14. Motorhead shortly after that. I wasn't allowed to listen to Motorhead until I'd heard Hawkwind. Those were the rules. My dad is pretty cool about musical education.

Yes, very sad. I was still in the last couple of years at school when first Hawkwind became known in Australia. I still have three of their albums on vinyl. My father did not provide the excellent guidance you got, but it didn't matter- Motorhead didn't exist at that stage. I agree with your Dad BTW- listen to Hawkwind first. I found Hawkwind through friends and loved them. Lemmy and Geezer were the reasons I first decided to play bass several lifetimes ago. Then I found King Crimson, Jethro Tull early Bowie, Mott, Wishbone Ash, Deep Purple. Man, what bands- what bass tones! The job on me was finalised when I heard Prakash John playing his Ric on the immortal album Rock and Roll Animal. My early heroes were largely playing Gibson basses and Rics, or heavily distorted P Basses (Geezer). Even though I loved Led Zeppelin, I liked JPJs tone best on the very early stuff when he used an early 50s single coil P Bass. I have always liked big thick bass tones and the basses that produce them. Jazz basses have never done it for me and I find not a lot attractive in some virtuoso slapping/ popping and shredding his way around a Jazz, often with little reference to the music. I guess that's why I do so well in the general population. ;)

I must have ordered a set about the same time as you. Mine still aren't here either.
I am also waiting on a hand wound dual coil pickup in the body shape of a Fender single coil P Bass pickup coming from Spain for my 69 Telecaster Bass- the pickup can be wired series/ parallel swichable. That should be very interesting.
They are my Xmas presents from my wife and son.
I had put the delays here down to some industrial action at Australian customs- my son got something posted in the UK in mid November yesterday.

Got to meet Lemmy twice, back in the 80's. Have an autographed copy of No Sleep Til Hammersmith here somewhere.

Kind of odd that two of my favorite bass players- and both primarily Rickenbacker players- died in the same year (Lemmy and Chris Squire, of course.)

Does anyone have pictures of a stripped Epiphone Tbird? I'd like to know what it'll look like without the finish but I don't want to do it if it'll look like garbage.

Most of "early" Zeppelin (depending on your definition of early) was his Jazz. The '50s single coil P was only used for a few songs and I'm pretty sure wasn't used until LZIII.

This is what I had thought also. His first bass, that he got as a young man, "...was a pig!", in his words. Then he got the Jazz, and played it till the screws came loose.

Ao today I just plain had a bad day. Tried like hell to file a claim but usps just does not support Safari, the proprietary software for Apple. Ebay wasnt easy either, big giant PITA!

However In my frustration i made a smart/good decision. Instead of trying to keep this bass I just stuck it back in the same box it came in and will go back packed the exact same shytty way it arrived. I hope it gets dropped again too!

But, and this is most important, i have my integrety intact! That makes me feel a lot better.

Thanks for that, just goes to show. I have never been able to get a thick tone like that from A Jazz without going series/ parallel.

I've been speaking with the good folks at Nordstrand p'ups, and if I can afford it I'm going to take a run at a pair of Big Singles. And if they can't come up with p'up covers to drop into the Epi T-Bird (Epiphone is apparently very snooty about their "proprieties"), they may just send them "raw", meaning no covers, the wire wrapped in a plastic sheathing. Just bobbins and copper. Might look really cool! :cool:
