I decided to take a couple days off from work after returning from the band's trip, glad I did, the Seahawks were worth watching today :)

Not much bird related here either. But the good news about my goth refurbish (& other substantial builds) is that i'm going to order some radius blocks this week (beats making my own + i'm getting help from my friend Mike who wants to learn how, so i might teach him some things) & then my goth will be back on work bench along with the other builds i've got going.

I've also decided to ditch guitar stands in the future in favour of having a guitar rack road case - that i'll build from scratch :P. I'm gonna build two of them since i've calculated all the gear i currently own, & will own/build in the future & i've got 20 total w/2 pending if i want or not. This way, all my gear is exposed, w/o taking up too much room all in line on stands & storage for accessories such as pedals, cables, etc. It'll also facilitate transport when i move places, instead of individual cases (although i do plan on investing in a few cases for my archtop guitar, acoustic guitar & 2 tear drop cases (1 guitar, 1 bass).

I finally found a way to use the TBird on more songs of our set-list. We cover stuff from Beatles and CCR to The Cult, RHCP, Green Day and ZZ Top (with some Motown thrown in between) and my other bass is pretty good for most of it, but the T-Bird fits so much better with the rockers. I'll be using her with a different preamp (MXR DI+ patch on a Zoom MS-60B), just to shape its tone enough to make her fit in the band's sound. She won't have all of her mids-ishy gnarl, but at least, I'll be able to play her.

It's really odd in a way... when I started playing bass 8 years ago, the 1st bass I tried in a shop was a sunburst Epi T-Bird and shrugged her off 'cause she didn't feel right. Now, can't get enough of her.

Sorry to hear that.
My grandfather and my grandmother died within two years at christmas. Pretty tough when everybody is fake happy that time of the year..

Slapping is another matter, but I think it's an issue of the wood as opposed to pickups, at least to some degree. I think the maple bolt-on of a Fender adds to the snappiness of the sound that the mahogany/neck-through of the TBird, cannot do. Of course, the opposite is true in that what I like about the qualities of the Gibson, can not be replicated by a Fender.

I'm no funk guy, but I think technique is more important than the bass. Of course a T-Bird will never sound like the fenders, but it's not a wobbly, muddy rock-only bass as the fender crowd makes it out to be there:

#+$!. I only once made a claim at USPS, and got a refund although the only transport it to cologne and from then on it's german and then austrian postal service. They were way more cooperative than UPS. I worked in the UPS warehouse for some time and they treat stuff like the guy in the airport video.

I don't know about sending pics of the package, because that way it surely isn't insured by USPS. The seller has to make sure there can't be any damage at transport. If the seller refuses this could take quite some time.

THIS^^^ more than anything makes me believe that the seller had a damaged bass that they intended to "drop" on a purchaser to rid themselves of a bass that couldn't be sold "in person". That is not proper packaging to keep the bass from getting wear marks from the inside of the box much less from getting damaged from being thrown, dropped or whatever during the shipping process. The seller is a total scammer, guaranteed.
