When I threw my ex wife out, I kept everything as well as custody of my daughter. My ex wife was a real piece of work as well. She objected to everything! Including trying to say that she couldn't attend our daughters HS graduation if I was there because of 'the stress involved with seeing me and my new wife' - keep in mind this is SIX YEARS after our divorce and she's lived with/ dated several men since then - none lasting more than 10-12 months, at the longest) , so I quickly learned to do the same thing as you, "have you lawyer contact mine". My lawyer never once got a call from her lawyer and never once has her demented ravings stopped us from enjoying our lives

My daughter isn't big into kayaking but my (step) son is excited to start coming out with me & my wife this summer, he turns 11 (tomorrow!) and he's ready to start coming out with us, tethered for safety & help while he learns/ gets stronger.

love kayaking out on the ocean and NE is prime for it..not much in NoCal unless you go to the delta or the bay but even then it's not the same...about 10 years ago 4 of us (2 kayaks) went from Marshfield to PTown using the Pilgrim Monument as a landmark....made it ok but it took us over 12 hours...we were beat but what a blast..

Sounds like the guides, the ones you pay to take you safely through, weren't doing their job! I would be pissed.

No guides. Someone who helped set up the weekend heard about it from a friend. We rented the kayaks from someone who met us at the river, then picked them up later downstream at the camp.

Burlington Bay on L Ontario where I am paddling is an active shipping area. And there are plenty of yahoos on jetskis. Wednesday evening, there is a sailing club that does races and some of those sailors are a bit reckless as well. On the upside, there is a solid police presence. They do plenty of safety checks. I have been "pulled over" for a safety check - make sure that I have a PFD, signalling device(s) (whistle, light etc.), bailing device (required by law but not terrible useful in a SoT), and heaving line. I have seen them tow people in and hear that the tickets they write are sizable (and carry demerit points on your drivers license).

The freight vessels are big so you can see them a long way off. They take time to do everything, so you know where they are going. It is the larger sailboats that worry me most. I am not always confident that they are looking. They will be going a good clip straight at other vessels (including me), making no indication of direction or intent to turn then veering away when only 100 yards away.

Caneel Bay itself is restricted (I think) to the resort ferries and their customers. I had seen the cruise ships go “next door” but once I got out of the bay didn’t check around frequently enough. The ship used its horn in plenty of time for me to move- which I did.

In the bay, I did have to watch out for newbies in Sunfish (IIRC).

Oh you are right, by the power station? Work 2.5 miles from Flo's? direction Middletown or Newport? Used to play at Rusty's a lot....great hang...

Yup! Near the Brayton Point station where they just demolished the cooling towers at the end of April. It was pretty cool to see and hear:

I've never been to Rusty's, I only know it from driving by. I always thought that it looks more like an apartment building than a Bar/ venue

I like it. I think Yamaha is underrated as a manufacturer of guitars and basses. They need to make something thunderbird shaped.

I can't wait to try one. Several L&Ms have them in stock, but my local doesn't have one yet. It looks like it would sound great (single humbucker) and they seem to be well priced. Maybe I need a short scale...

It really sounds great. I think it's a great bass for the price.

I lived in Marin & Sonoma counties in the early 90's and did lots of kayaking and scuba around the Marin Headlands to the south and Bodega Bay to the north... until I actually had one of the previously mentioned Chief Brody moments. Realizing that I was being stalked by a great white while diving for abalone in a kelp forest was enough for me. I didn't go in the salt water for close to 10 years after that encounter

I usually have my headphones on, but am always checking around.

The little dinghys don't worry me. Worst case we all get wet and someone gets yelled at. The bigger boats could seriously injure/kill me.

I don't like to use headphones on the water (1. too immersive for me so I worry about safety and 2. I want to hear the cries of ospreys hunting or the fish jumping or bird calls, etc.) so I use one of these (waterproof Bluetooth speaker), that I keep inside the kayak with me - great acoustics, the kayak turns into a giant sound chamber!

I keep my phone, license & truck key in one of these. I can still use the touch screen, etc. on my phone through the plastic and I don't have to worry about stuff getting wet or lost if I get sprayed or capsize.

I'm using one of these

for phone, car key, ID, energy bar (just in case), and for headphones while in the marina. I wait until I am in open water to put in headphones and take them out to go into the marina. Just seems prudent given a smaller area and more traffic.
