On the rare occasion that I actually want a Jazz bass sound I just grab this...

......and flip the switch to single coil mode. Why suffer with all the goofy Fender design and playability issues when I have a perfectly good TBird capable of sounding just like a Jazz bass (see the DPDT wiring schematic below).

It occurred to me that it might result in less combinations of pup sounds (which I would desire) as compared to VVT, in which each PUP has an overlapping full sweep of the pot.
Then I thought that perhaps the blend would give each pup the equivalent of a full sweep, but only in half a turn of the pot, with both on at 100% at the center detent (no overlap) How does yours work?

Blow it up to full size and you can see how thrashed the '91 was before refinishing. It will never look like a new instrument, but it sure will look the part on stage. Picture is from a few weeks ago, before clear, sanding, or anything else.
I'm looking forward to dressing it back up with all the chrome and covers. It will be the pink '62 Coupe deVille of bass guitars.Looks great!!!
Nice. Since it was being completely refinished, did you consider having the bridge holes filled in and installing a classic two-piece bridge?Photo of the PinkBird, circling, thinking about landing...

I thought about it, but I already put a chrome Babicz on it. The Babicz looks a bit like a two piece once you put a bridge cover on the bass. I like the way it sits under the cover a bit better than the way the original two piece does anyway. It's a bit neater looking. Being pure or consistent has never been a hangup. Just to finish the inconsistency, I was thinking about putting a tug bar on it, but decided not to. That may still happen someday. A chrome pickguard is another option I have been toying with.Nice. Stop me before I bling again!Nice!! Do it!!
Get wings put on a Cadillac logo.Stop me before I bling again!
I was also thinking about hunting down an early '60s Cadillac badge of some kind to put on it somewhere. Beats me where. Maybe as a decal on a chrome pickguard instead of a Thunderbird logo. But, that would be just wrong somehow. Being wrong never stopped anybody from doing anything.

yeah, I like'em....prolly cause I've been playing'em forever....they can't touch a T-Bird for many things (specially tone) but as a whole...are those white pups all DiMarzio's?.....my Elite....Js are not quite as cool as TBs, BUT I still like them very much...
