No new bass, Bird or JC day for me for a long time coming.

I did receive some strings today. Chrome wound nylon flatwounds. Until my new tailpiece/gut arrives (last sighted in Newark) they will be staying in the packet.
Jeez!:jawdrop: I'm glad I was sitting when I read this.

Newark is or was the car theft capital of the US. I'm concerned. We'll get Booker on the case.

Liking the strings - that sounds intriguing. On the cello or on a 'Bird? I'm assuming cello, since you mentioned a tailpiece.

No JC for a long time is a shame.

Very clean for 43 years old. Just need to find the proper truss rod tool. Didn't come with one.

Thomastik-Infeld Dominants, down from $300 to $200 (and I still winced when I ordered them). Decided synthetic core would get me most of the way to gut without the expense, or having to use sheeps.

The original tailgut, hanger, whatever you want to call it is gone. Getting rid of the corroded metal tailpiece, replacing it with ebony and a kevlar hanger -- sort of 18th century and 21st century all at the same time.

The next step will be to get my bow rehaired with Coruss -- the existing horsehair more or less crumbles when you touch it and there's no reason to use more horse parts than already went into the original manufacture.

The most expensive part will be getting geared Wittner or Planetary pegs fitted, but that's a long term project.

Indeed! One of the best looking cars ever.
I had a 1973 Javelin SST in pretty much the same color scheme. Fun car. The ex got it in the divorice (I got stuck with the 1981 VW Rabbit). Two weeks later she totaled the Javelin in one of her drunk driving episodes. Fortunately no one else was hurt.

But more importantly, with just five minutes to spare... its THUNDERBIRD THURSDAY...

NBD!!! New Bird Day!!!

A new bird has entered the flock. But it's an Eagle! 1976 BC Rich Eagle. I'd been eyeing this for a long time but couldn't justify the price, but the planets suddenly aligned for me last week and I grabbed it. All original, including the case. All mahogany, original Badass bridge, and really early Bartolini Hi-A pickups. I always loved the Eagle body style and am so happy to have been able to get this. Very light, too. Exactly 8 lbs. Taking it to Mas Hino tomorrow to get it properly examined and set up. And I'll replace whatever these strings are with SIT.

I have to say I am blown away by this thing, I've owned a few birds over the years, I forgot how good and fast that ebony neck can be, how thunderous those pickups are. Finish is impeccable.

Happy to hear that you are happy with it. It looks fantastic!!! Congrats!!
