Thunderbird Club

I TRIED - OMG How I tried. My Vintage Pro had Chromes on it for the past few months - but I believe I'm done. I'm done pulling on those high-tension lines and ripping my knuckles to crap. Bought a set of TI Jazz Flats - standard on my fretless. Looking forward to taking the twang down a notch and making my bird that much more playable.

Any others of you running TI Jazz Flats on your 'bird? Thoughts?
I had TIs on my Bicentennial. Sounded really good. Eventually tried some Fender Flats on it I had around the house for curiosity. Never liked these strings on anything but they sound good on the '76. Not better than the TIs just different.

It was 117 here the other day...I rode my bike to work. :)

Recent days aside, it's been over or near 110 here for a while now... It's just summer.
My hottest day here was 122F... I was riding on that day, too :D
(although I didn't know the temp until I got home... ;) )

Every degree over 110 is tough when the humidity is up IMO. When we have hit 122 over the years it is quite brutal. One time when it happened the air went out on my car and in our apartment. That was not fun. I will take the AZ summers over Mississippi summers any day. 100 Degrees with 100% humidity is suffocating to me.

Dude! The shoes are behind the dropcloth. Red paint, not blood. Sorry. Every pair of shoes I own, including motorcycle boots, all fit between the paint and shop vac stuff on the floor, with a variety of fasteners, clamps and other knuckle dragger things on the shelves above them. I make a lousy mod.

It arrived by UPS yesterday at about 1 pm. I snuck out of work early and threw it all back together. Amazingly enough, it made sound just like it was supposed to when I plugged it in, and it intonated perfectly right away, too. No problems with then neck adjustment. I expect to have to adjust it a bit soon, but maybe not.

I played a private party last night, and it was the bass I played. The pixie dust '01 stayed in its case, just waiting for this one to falter. It didn't falter, so the PinkBird was on the whole night. It has tapes on it now, but I'm not convinced I like the way it sounds with those. There is too much muddy orange in the sound of those strings on this bass, at least for now.

It crossed the country in its case. I had it out at work for a few hours, and then it was out getting reassembled and played most of the time up until about 10:00 last night or so. It's in its case now, but it will be back out this evening, and will mostly stay out of its case for more than a week. With any luck, that will solve any imprinting issues.

Beautiful!! Looks so nice with the chrome.

I'm with you brother! Their Jazz rounds are great as well--if you can get used to the tension, or lack thereof.

This is a funny thing on the tension. I think they aren't floppy at all, for lack of a better way to say it.
They seem, or i perceive them to have a similar tension as Cobalt flats. Which suits me just fine.

Although i have yet to try the TI rounds.

Playing it last night sure was fun. The band kept looking at it and laughing. It's just completely outrageous looking now. Yeah, it's clear it has dents, it was refinished, and all that. But it sure has a presence.

For what its worth, the bridge cover is on straight, in spite of what it looks like. The screws are the same distance from the neck. It sure looks crooked in the photos.
Optical delusion?

As I understand it, the T1s are constructed to be more flexible. That makes them feel like a lower tension string.
Did you go from Cobalt flats to T1s on the same bass?

The PinkBird has vintage style gold knobs. If you are going to put on covers, you may as well go all out pose. I'm undecided on the pickguard. I didn't think I would like the stock white pickguard against BMM, but it is growing on me.

A chrome pickguard might look like you are trying too hard (with the BMM).

like a sauna in San Felipe, 92 with 85% humidity making it feel like it’s over 110....jumping in here helps..but not much...water’s gotta be in the upper 70’s...

Yowser, yowser, yowser.

That I like.

Good point. Then again, BMM may look that way just by being BMM. The original white is growing on me more and more. If the original white PG stays, does it need a tug bar? That's the next big decision.

I totally wouldn't say I'm a finesse player - I compress 4:1 on the input and again at my DI box. But I would say that I don't play with a pick with anywhere near the confidence as with my primary 2 finger pluck method. The chromes are so tight that my fretting hand is getting a workout depressing the strings - and my action isn't incredibly high. So we'll see.

Thanks, as always, for your opinion!

What size Chrome flats? I'll have to double check; I *think* I'm running a set of 45-105s on the IV. I have 45-130s on the V. Neither give me any problems; in fact both are slightly lower tension that what came on those basses, requiring a slight neck relief change.

I play with and without a pick, with a wide variety of dynamics. I'm usually compressed on stage, but not always.
