Thunderbird Club

If he moved to the coast he could play year round more often than not.
Yep, they have passed now. My 2 cousins are still in cold spots, but a few of their kids are in Vancouver.

The pic showed that it was a bit deep in spots for yellow/orange balls.

Uncle was a ‘gun’ mechanic - no, not on guns - on cars, trucks, aircraft. A particular claim to fame was that he was appointed to General Macarthur’s plane when he was up in PNG (Nth Qld maybe). Something was up with the plane so he had to go over it. No pressure lol.

went to see Mikey Schermer (jammed with him in the 90’s) playing with Tommy here

I was very young at that time but Ziggy era Bowie with Mick Ronson is a huge part of my musical foundation. Thank God for my friends older brother. He introduced us to all of the Glam stuff back then.
I was in Jr. High when Hunky Dory came out. I devoured Robert Hilburn’s Sunday reviews in the LA Times. He wrote so enthusiastically about Bowie that I had to buy the album. I was hooked. Then Ziggy came out...”PLAY IT LOUD.” Like you, his music is ingrained in me.

Yesterday evening I saw Steve Harris and his back up band.

Great show - played the songs you really wanted to hear. And I knew what was coming because months ago they put the set list up on Spotify as a playlist ( Iron Maiden - Official Playlist, a playlist by Iron Maiden on Spotify ). The show was done in 3 parts - martial (two minutes to midnight, the trooper etc), ecclesiastic (revelations, the sign of the cross), and horror (fear of the dark, number of the beast). For a bunch of old guys nearly ready to collect their state pensions, they put on a great high energy show.

Obligatory crappy cell phone picture (hey, you gotta like a Spitfire flying over the stage)

Addendum:

It was great to see a show and hear the bass up front in the mix.

Of course, IM is Steve's band...

Any “Play, Don’t Worry” fans? I had to review that album and couldn’t decide what I thought. Kind of a T-Rex meets Elton John, produced by David Bowie.

It had some moments, like White Light, but it didn’t get many spins on my table.

I think MCF summed it up pretty well.

It would be great to go to a big show and hear the bass guitar!
It was great. And TB heads would explode... [TB archetype mockery]Steve Harris was wearing shorts. On stage, wearing shorts! And others wearing band T-shirts; their band t-shirts. Three guitar players; way too many egos, probably playing way too loud that you can't hear anything but guitars on stage, and it dilutes everyone's pay. Clearly not professionals; they'll never get anywhere until they do things properly.[/TB archetype mockery]

When I was in high school, Iron Maiden was pretty much the heaviest thing going. And then all those sub-genres came along. I slowly stopped listening to IM after I finished University. But I have gone back in the last 20 years and rediscovered them. Like many musicians of their era, after 4 formulaic albums of heavy rock, they started getting more progessive. And now I listen to the more recent music and hear something far more "prog rock" than "metal". I guess either the musicians or the audience (or both) get bored with 4/4, 3 chord, verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/solo/verse/chorus sooner or later.

I had the thought after the show - what is wrong with Steve Harris? Before the show starts, they play Doctor Doctor (UFO) over the PA (as they usually do). In part because Steve Harris is/was a huge Pete Way fan. You can hear the Pete Way influence in his playing. So what is wrong with Steve Harris that he doesn't play a Thunderbird?

I suspect 7ender gives him all the "P's" he could ever want. Since it's "his" band, I guess he can wear whatever he wants. Perhaps he should try melons.:smug:

wouldn’t wanna beat up a Bird the way he does his Ps.....Washburn used to sponsor PW with basses until one of their VPs went to a show and saw Way in action...they stopped the sponsorship much to Way’s surprise....lol..
