Thunderbird Club

Luckily I developed a right hand pinky finger-'stilt' routine so I really don't have a need for external 'rests' but everyone has their own preference.

Sorta' strange fleshy pic but shows what I'm talking about... (fingers look really fat... must be the lens...)

I’ve been trying to do that. I now have renewed hope.

Just was sent some footage of a show I did last week with a buddy of mine. Some mistakes, but not bad for one practice (and the keyboard player just walking up to join us), and the BaCH sounded pretty good, even if it was through an Ampeg.

cool!...BaCH looks awesome...love how the cherry finish looks under the lights...almost like changes color to an orange...

Nicely done, well played, Dylan!

Dano? that pickup...

Yes, in fact it's a post Dano late 60's Coral Deluxe Bass (34" scale)- '68 to be exact - and the body has some similarities to a late 60's gen2 T-bird "shape". Coral went out off biz in '69 after buying Danelectro in '67. A very cool bass and one I'm using recently with my band. Has a pronounced nasally (J-bass) tone but with big hairy balls... (can I say that Paul?) David Letterman reference...

You gots it all goin' :bassist:

Good evening everyone. I just got my new bass back from the tech, with new strings and a much needed set up. Eager to get to know her. Curious about the possibilities.
The more I have played the Jack Casady with the new strings, the better I like them. This is the first time I have tried flats. I hear they get even better with age.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Sounds like rock n roll to me! Nicely done. Cool bass.

Yes - solid and bolt-on. Thin body - airplane wing taper all around! That's kinda' like what mine looked like when I bought it (from Canada!)... stripped that is... That one (seen it on Reverb?) is missing the 'swirl' material under the clear pg but has the original angular bridge cover. I had one fabbed locally of SS to specs because that was the only missing part. Not walnut - poplar! The neck too, with a solid rosewood hs & fb. The only way they got away with it for neck wood (relatively soft/light) was no tr! It has twin steel beams the length of the neck! - straight as an arrow after 41 years! Frankly a bit of a neck-diver, worst than any THUNDERBIRD I own/play...

Pre bridge upgrade (see it in prior pic) Coral was not only the brand, but it was also the original colour of this bass. (over white primer) Slim 'D' neck profile - 1-3/4" nut - 22 frets - it's a real gem!

It really is....ultra rare, never heard of them...love to hear it...never really got familiar with the character of those pickups cause you (or so I thought) couldn’t get them on anything with a solid body which I prefer, looks like concentric controls?

Lower (blk) rings are volume N & B) and top creme caps/knobs are tone for each pu. It out-nasals (in a good way) any J-bass and had real character - I have no other bass that sounds like it! I usually go for more of a 'mid' tone and this bass does it for me - unique character distinction and solid bottom. Score!
They are a little rare - like I said, only made for 3 years. There was a Silvertone version that was similar made at the same time that is more common. Mine required some TLC - but it has surpassed my initial costs/efforts in what it offers! :bassist:

Always loved that swirl pearl pickguard material but couldn't ever find any, if you know a source let me know.

Corals and their cousin Danos have a sound all their own. Nothing else quite like it. In the right setting they are quite solid performers and really stand out in the mix. Fun basses.

I have a longhorn reissue, always wanted an original or Jerry Jones or a vintage Coral. Hodads are another one with a unique sound. Hang on tight to your Coral, they are getting very hard to find.

Same here. Floating thumb just feels natural and does a good job at muting. Except I'm usually a single finger player, sometimes if the song needs it I'll use two, very rarely three.

It took me a while but I too do a take on floating thumb - Anchor on the pickup for E&A strings then float for D and G. Probably not good textbook floating thumb, but works for me. Using two fingers was like learning to type. I was a two finger typist (and pretty fast) until I decided to just do it properly despite how slow it was until I got used to it.

I can see someone playing keys but didn't notice anyone else in the picture...

Like a present to unwrap ?

I saved that to Bookmark. I must have clumsily typed ‘Jethro Tull’ as it autocorrected to ‘Heathrow Still’...

 A Brit - Kentucky mashup ???

I think that Epi 5er would be happier with bridge and pickup covers
I did put a bridge cover on sometime after that pic was tooken. No pup cover 'cos I was gonna change to some kinda TBird pup. But I'm not.
