Thunderbird Club

I'm glad some of you couldn't even see it. That means it doesn't stick out like a... sore thumb. The TB+ makes a really comfortable thumb rest for me.
That is a really cool bass! How does it sound?
I love how y’all share.
All the instruments in our house are for playing - by my daughter and her friends. Except the EBO, which is off limits to visitors if I’m not present.

So there is the EB-2 origin story again for those who are not tired of it yet. Putting up pictures of a Coral with that crazy swirly mother of toilet seat pickguard should come with a Will's bass story warning!

Promise, not warning. Love your stories. We need everyone’s stories!

I like the TB+ pup's on my Bird also for that reason. The wood thumbrest on mine is at a different spot because it's what I'm used to, but my thumb's on that neck p'up a lot.

And yep, dude did a nice job on yours.

Thanks! Lots of possible sounds from it, but I haven't yet done much exploring because of the current project. One interesting thing is that the little time I do play with it here and there and then put back on the Thunderbird, I get such an "Ahhhhhh" moment of relief.

Thanks. The flipside is that in those transition moments I can't do anything else!
(And when Geddy does it it's just him being skillful! Dude kills me.)
He kills you?!! With me it's nothing short of a slaughter. But then so do a lot of people. I am likely as good as him if he's using his toes. Well, maybe not even then. That's why I always say: If you can't play good, at least sound good. AND play a Thunderbird!

I've been doing a little set up work on my Bicen. Neck keeps wanting to bow a little. The more taught Fenders are no doubt adding more tension than the TIs that were on it. Anyway, I never really noticed before but when I have both PUs on the bass its louder. On all others if I add both PUs full on, the volume drops a little. Like all may basses with two PUs. (Neck PU is always more loud that both.) Is that just an odd thing with the sidewinders or my bass? Don't suppose anything would be wrong or needing attention. It sounds good, but just struck me as odd. Both PUs are always on full so never recall noticing it. (PUs are balanced height wise.)

Those (sidewinder) pickups are wired series parallel, so no volume drop when they're both dimed.

Pickups are louder in the neck position everything else being equal. Blame physics. Bridge pickups are usually higher impedance to compensate, EB-3s being an outlier.

Good evening everyone. I just got my new bass back from the tech, with new strings and a much needed set up. Eager to get to know her. Curious about the possibilities.
The more I have played the Jack Casady with the new strings, the better I like them. This is the first time I have tried flats. I hear they get even better with age.
Have a great weekend everyone.
I have Labella flats on my Casady. It can do a nice old school Pbass sound, but it growls when you dig in and/or pop.

I only use the neck pup on the 67NR. If I add the bridge pup*, volume drops and tone is sorta 'choked(?)so I just don't use it. I've tried the suggestion of neck pup 90%, bridge pup full. Doesn't do it for me. It is possible the pot[original]is ferkakt or something, but as I don't use it I don't care.

That would explain it then. Thanks!

You know, I'm finding that I like just the neck more and more. When I use a pick, however, I always roll in the bridge as well. I do like my '64 Embassy with the bridge rolled back to about 8 1/2 or so. But just the neck sounds even better at times. As time goes on, I may be like you and not need the superfluous PU!

Well, I was trawling around Spotify looking for cool versions of Born Under A Bad Sign to emulate and what do I run across? This:

Our own @dukeorock with the Legendary Shack Shakers

I like it!! I think my favorite version might be Albert King and Stevie Ray. Then again, I've heard others do great jobs as well.

I always alternate. Third is usually for the G string when I’m going to move back down quickly. Pretty much how I played back in the day. When I took bass up again, I concentrated on being really fluid, if that makes sense. Lots of “air bass” in the car while driving. Of course it’s all a mess when I work on using a pick.

I’m at the office today. I’ll try and get that measurement for you this weekend. Need to get back in synch with the ‘15 anyway; haven’t given it some love since before my vacation.
Much appreciated!

Right. I recall a video you posted of her band. One of the other musicians was playing one of your instruments.

Most of the time, I have neck at 9 or 10, and bridge at 0 or 1. (Non-extremes are very approximate. Every once in a while the neck drops or the bridge cranks, possibly even swapping those. Swaps, when I need them, annoy me; it’s one reason I am considering switching from VVT to VBT. With chickenheads.
