Thunderbird Club

Your too cool!

I lived in KY for nearly 35 years and loved the folks there. Down to earth, give you the shirt off their backs type people. Apparently they’ll even give you the strings off their bass too.

Thx for the Boomer offer but based on your reco a few pages back I already put some on order. I think I have my VP all sorted out but I plan on trying the boomers and a set of Cobalts on my 2015 Bird.

The 2015 has been a real puzzle to figure out. Possibly the most interactive and iterative set up I’ve ever run across. Every adjustment effects everything else. Just raising a pickup changed the intonation, go figure. I think I have it all sorted out now, just in time to start the perfect string quest for this Bird.
My take is that a 2015 is the least user friendly 'Bird ever made, but it's probably the most versatile 'Bird ever made once you figure it out. I haven't completely figured mine out yet, but then I also haven't spent the kind of time and effort on it that you have. There are a couple reasons for that. The two reasons aren't too hard to identify.

Hey, it's a stretch here. But probably why i'd love it. Un-traditional in every sense. Single pole pieces, coil tapping superfluous p'up. Yeah. Sounds good to me. I'd utilize that whole ball-o-wax.

And yeah, there's an E'hem in there.

I will leave it to you in my will. If nobody hears from me again, the alien Chechen mob got me. They have been incentivised.

That it is. But I also know from my 2013 EB5 (same electronics) that the final result will be very rewarding.
And as JJR noted, it's sonically so different from the other birds that it makes perfect sense to have it in the line up.

I'm still perplexed by the magnetic orientation of the pup poles. Neck pup, neck poles are the same polarity as the bridge pup bridge poles. All my other birds are neck poles on both pups the same polarity and bridge poles on both pups are the other polarity.

If you or @MCF have a horseshoe magnet or bar magnet and some spare time it would be great to know if the polarity on your 2015 is the same as mine - neck pup neck poles the same polarity as the polarity on the bridge pup bridge poles. In other words, do the neck pup neck poles attract or repel a given end of your hand held magnet, and do the bridge pup bridge poles attract or repel the same end of that magnet?
That's the last bit of set up info I need to answer.

I will have to find a magnet to check. Or maybe a compass.

Just because I'm completely OCD and bored outta my gourd while I'm laid up with this mangled foot, I might try to make up a magnetic field register (iron filings sandwiched between two thin sheets of clear plastic sheet. Laid over the tops of the pups and beneath the strings should give an interesting view of what's going on with the 2015 vs my other TBirds. If I do it I'll take pics and post them here.

It was a great Thunderbird Tuesday!

I’ll provide more detail later. Not sure if fret end finish work is factory; it’s extremely good. Could be? Decently set up except for bridge angle. Intonation is spot on. Needs strings, fret polish, FB oiling and a light cleanup. Description by seller as “near mint” is accurate. Bridge PUP V pot is a tad sticky. Everything works and sounds great. Nice dark rosewood board. Appears to be an original EPI case in VG condition. This one was babied. I’m a fortunate guy that it chose me. It will be well played.

Seller was AxeShop Inc., Wappingers, NY, via Reverb. I’m very impressed. They will get excellent feedback from me.

Very nice! Congratulations! And smart move covering up your address on the box so no one here goes to your house to steal it.

Thanks! Never heard of Wappingers NY, but this AxeShop Inc. did me a solid on this Bird. Between you, JJR and this shop, I’m thinking New York is ok. Except for the Yankees of course. Go Dodgers!
