Thunderbird Club

“Mellow out” is a good description, although I tend to think it more of “evening out.” My experience on Ps is that they are a bit mellower than rounds, still have some grind (think Duck on the live Time is Tight at Oakland where Fogerty is watching in awe from the wings) and are consistent across and up and down the board.
I just watched that video-Duck appears to be plugged into a Kustom PA head! I used to have one which is why it caught my eye.

Interesting. I started thinking this morning that maybe D'Addario tapes might be the answer to the question I haven't asked.
I had D'Addario tapes on the 67 TBird for quite awhile. I liked the tone and feel but they seemed to go dead-ish kinda quickly*. I still have them on my Ibby AGB200 semi hollow for a more UB sound if I'm doing a concert band or jazz gig. They were the only string that has ever "broken" on a gig, but it wasn't the fault of the string itself. Another band member knocked a music stand into the bass. Didn't hurt the Ibby, but the knife edge of the stand cut thru the nylon covering of the "G" string which unraveled and left the bass unplayable. That did not change my opinion of them; I put another set on ASAP.
I did find that, while the bass is 30.5" scale(short), I needed medium length strings for it. The HS is 2+2, and the "E" and "G" string silks overlapped the nut: measure carefully.
*everything is relative-maybe a year and a 1/2 of occasional playing. Strings on the Ibby are over a year old and sound fine.

I'm lo fi anyway, but if you want qui k then you do a straight line... into a machine, mix, voila.

The time is the length of a song plus cabling up time and assigning tracks in your software, really... nothing unusually involved.
For all the recording references^. Y'all are way above my paygrade. I have an ancient Tascam 4 track 2x speed cassette recorder I once did an experiment on with me playin TBird on one track, drum machine on 2nd, chords on POS keyboard on 3rd, and either sax or flute on the 4th. Too much PITA to deal with on a regular basis. We did use it to make a demo tape of a live rehearsal.:meh: Nothing to write home about. Oh, wait. I am home.

When I was a DI at Ft. Leonard Wood, we taught classes in 'refurbished' Quonset huts. 25 years later they STILL smelled of Cosmoline [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Fun fact, I work 7 miles from Quonset Point, where the huts got their name from
that old naval base is creepy.....there's a ton of undetonated ordinance close to the shore that you can't near with a boat....eerie place...used to go there a lot for airshows when kids....apparently it's way haunted..

You ain't seen clams until you've seen a Geoduck!:woot:

I won't post any pictures or links for fear of being banned (google it on your own) but it's a legit clam residing in the Washington State area among other Pacific Northwest areas. Biggest darn beach clam I've ever seen. It would be hard to look at while eating whole, but cut up and cooked they're just fine. One clam will make a large pot of clam chowder.

Speaking of Washington state, that's where our Queen and a couple of clan members reside. Any of you Washington THUNDERBIRD members ever been on a Geoduck dig? It can be a heck of a workout.

Tape saturation is cool for sure, but will it add time and complexity to the process.
You could always run your track out to tape and then back into the DAW later. -or use a tape saturation plug in;)

When I just want capture an idea, I often record it with my phone or iPad. Quick & simple.
Here's what I have right now...

...I suppose I could just continue to use it as an initial capture device. Then take the playback to a digital file converter (or maybe to my iPhone with the right patch cords) to get it in a sound cloud format so I could post to bandmates for their collaboration. But to be honest, that sounds a lot like a duct tape and bandaid solution.

Since I'm a native I can say "yes" although I was pretty young and with my father, he liked to eat them, I never did like them as a young person. There was an incident in which I ate too many clams (rhymes with glam) and I had to talk to God on the big white telephone, put me off of mollusks for good.

Geoduck?!? :D

After me...…. Goo ee duck

I was at my buddy’s shop talking guitars when I noticed a BC Rich headstock. Hard to believe it was that colour!
The former owner was over-zealous while stripping that lovely blue, so it’s going to end up thinner than it was originally.

He has the gold Schallers and bridge (not a badass but just as heavy) as well as the Dimarzios and wiring harness.

If he ever decides he’s not going to get it done, I have dibs.

Do you need multitracking or are you just going to record ideas on bass or guitar?

That's beautiful! How old is it?

I was playing with mine at the studio last night. Really enjoying it. Still no Thunderbird, though.

Beat me to it. I will reiterate. GBass, are you looking to lay down some songs/demos or more of an idea catcher? If it’s the latter,
that Tascam is actually pretty sweet. There might be something wrong with me (!) but I get giddy over older analog tech.
I might of shed a few tears when my Teac R/R bit the dust.

Multi tracking capability would be nice and less limiting. But to be honest, I'd bet that at least 50% of the time it'll be just a bass track. I can capture ideas just by turning my phone on and recording while I play thru the cab, but it'll be a very low quality sound that won't be good for much more than a reminder of some interesting lick I played.

For that I usually just record with the Voice Memos app on my iPhone or my Tascam DR-07mkII handheld digital recorder. But if you want to record into the computer from your bass, the Apogee Jam-type stuff works really well. I have one.
