Thunderbird Club

Ya know Will. (of course i have to be the one to bring this up, and maybe get banned or shut down the club, but....),

There's just a slight innuendo there in those first three words of your post.
And there is so no corner in this place.
I retired from Ehem duty. My thoughts are always pure these days. I don't know what you are talking about.

I do tend to set my mic a little high;)

I could blindly turn knobs, but....:eek:
I like to have a little room on the volume and tone to turn up without going to the amp.
There’s also this sweet spot on the VP when the neck pickup is on full and the bridge is on 8.
I turn knobs by feel, just like playing without looking at fingers. It's not as precise, and once you figure it out like you have, it becomes far more predictable.

Edit: quoted...
"can you pass the test?...."

It's really in *how you say* "Qhauhog"...

...and edit:
I hear both "Kwau-hog" and "Co-hog"... the debate gets lightly thrown around.
My wife, a long-time, longer-than-me Rhoady, has me stood corrected:

The proper pronunciation, and usage,of the word "Quauhog"...
Caw-hawg, a bi-valve found in local waters;
Caw-hawguh, one who harvests caw-hawgs;
Caw-hawgizz, the population of small workboats you see on a typical fair day out on the bay...

Not currently running flats on any of my birds, but had Cobalt Flats on the VP earlier in the year, will probably go back to those, I really liked them.

I run Roto Flats on my SG Supreme and like them enough to try them on my VP or 2015. The Rotos are IMHO a very traditional sounding flat. I find the Cobalts to be much brighter on the top end with more detail in the bloom and not quite as deep as the Rotos but a very good match for the VP which has naturally more agressive and brighter fuller range pickups than most of my birds.

FWIW I'm running La Bella Black Tapes on my Goth and it has a very unique sound, quite a bit different from my other birds. Note - it has after market pups and an active preamp that might have a whole lot to do with the sound as well.

I like Chromes on my P basses and La Bella Tapes on my Jazz basses. Don't like Roto Tapes on anything I've tried. I like Black Beauties on my Stingrays and other overly bright basses. TI's on my Alembics work very well. And D'Addario Nickel rounds on my Spectors work well.
I had LaBella tapes on the Flamingo. I think they will be going back on soon. I liked them a lot.

Been poking around the string forum. Anyone tried DR Legends (flats) on their 'bird?
Haven't tried those. Had a set of D'Addario half-rounds on the 67 THUNDERBIRD some years ago. Liked them on it but they weren't worth spit(sp?)on the Les Paul 5er. Didn't match up with the factory Barts, I guess. The recent change to [here he goes again]Cobalt Flats has allowed me to re-fall in love with that bass.:)

Healing up ok then?
No idea yet, won't know until early Oct when the cast comes off if anything has started healing (fingers crossed):cool:
But on the up side, I get plenty of time to play whatever bass my wife brings down the stairs for me. So far it's been equally split between the THUNDERBIRD VP and the Gibby SG Supreme. I think I'll give the 2015 some lap time today. :thumbsup:

Great tune, but even now, it gets overplayed, esp. if the DJ has to go to the can. That or "Stranglehold" or "In-a-Gadda...."

No question - a good song way overplayed. There are a number of good songs in which that happened. I was in a store last week and "The Man Who Sold the World" (Bowie) came over the system. A great song that (luckily) never got a lot of airplay, even after Nirvana's version. It was cool hearing it so randomly.

That's part of why I listen to LSUG on Sirius/XM. Ya never know what's gonna come up that you haven't heard in years.

HAPPY THUNDERBIRD THURSDAY

@Chucky Stiletti (and a lot of spare time) got me thinking about getting back into home recording. I need to drastically update my very out of date analog (cassette tape) mixing and recording console and go digital.

I don't need pro grade, no intent of publishing anything, but would just like to create some direct plug in tracks - don't really want to go down the mic rabbit hole again, did that 20 years ago and found it to be never ending. I'd like to share tracks with my band buddies and do multi track lay overs. The other thing I don't want is a complex software program that ends up sucking all the spontaneity and creative energy out of playing while I fiddle f..k with stupid brain dead interfaces and adjust a thousand parameters. Obviously I'm looking for a KISS approach to home non pro recording.

So, what's out there that's dead simple, direct plug into the bass, fully digital, allows others to lay tracks on top of it, and if not fully self contained requires an iPhone app at max.

This is what I'm looking at right now...

Any thoughts on this or other suggestions welcomed.
