Thunderbird Club

Have been away due to health issues, but back on the web with my buds! Vintage T-Bird guy, eight years touring with a Polaris White '66 NR with at first an SVT and then an Acoustic 371 setup back in the 70's. Lotsa cool pix to share. And tales from an old touring pro. Had probably ten 60's Birds and got pix of some. The one in my avatar is a '67 that I got as a basket case and I restored Heather Poly in my shop. Hope you can find a place for me here amongst the buds who 'know it is a T-Bird' when you hear it! A true buncha players who share the magic of this one of a kind killer 'signature tone' instrument! How do I sign up? A computer wiz I am not! LOL Thanks! Tony
The proper color for any Thunderbird. Heather poly is the same as burgundy mist metallic. I suppose the Flamingo should be called heather poly, but burgundy mist metallic was what Cadillac called that color. So, that's what it is. Either way, It's great to see that there's another Thunderbird out there that's the same color. Gibson should offer that color on Thunderbirds now, in my opinion.

Catastrophic meltdown with lights and magic smoke would be an outstanding show, so long as you don't burn down the venue. That would be a problem. I hate to think how many circuit breakers and amp like that would blow, especially in some dive bar that has 1932 wiring.

You would definitely want it alone on its own circuit.

Catastrophic Meltdown would be a great name for the band. A THUNDERBIRD, a Firebird or two, vocals, and drums. If a Jon Lord showed up with a Hammond, we’d allow that.

Yep. Two is clearly a quorum when deciding necessary colors.

...I warned you not to look!

Stepped away for what seemed like a couple days and fell behind by 1,400 posts?!

Not much new to report, 2002 Gibson reverse ‘Bird is still my daily driver. Played an outdoor festival with really bad power that took out my 18” speaker. Got about 1,000 shows out of that speaker, so no real complaints. Driving home from Memphis and through some rabbit hole watched an entire live concert of Steve Hackett from 1980. I knew every single song but have no memory of ever owning a Steve Hackett record. That was odd. Couple live ‘Bird pics

And my live bass through eurorack rig keeps growing at an alarming rate

Welcome back! Did you miss the shutdown?

Speaker blew but the amp survived?
I guess the more shows you play, the more chances there are for things like that to happen.

Welcome! Some pics of that Heather Poly '67 would be a nice way to make everyone here drool. Stories related are always appreciated when they involve a THUNDERBIRD!

Welcome back! :) So that is a 'home-based' unit or are you saying that is your live, er.., interface on the road?

Right now, it’s just for fun at home, but I intend to do some live shows with it. Super fun but insanely complicated. Been practicing using it quite a lot and am starting to get somewhere :)

My friend Invalid Link Removed is a... (not sure how to describe him) sound-explorer (?) who does live solo and some ensemble performances using an array of sophisticated electronics including a Buchla. A recent performance in Alameda (East Bay) with Scott Amendola and Phillip Greenlief using a paired-down version of his 'instrument'. When he isn't doing this, I occasionally join him playing his Moog guitar with sprawling floor effects in jam-sessions. It gets pretty gnarly/dense sometimes.

Good to see you, Mark!

Beautiful basses all, Brad. If you'd like I can add you to the club.
