Thunderbird Club

Quick note on the Schaller strap locks. I prefer them over all other brands but I usually find the Schaller supplied screw is too small in diameter to fit snugly in the body screw hole. I frequently end up drilling out the male (body mounted) portion of the Schaller lock to accept the larger OEM strap pin screw that came with the bass. One could instead use the toothpick and glue method on the body hole to tighten the fit but I'd rather modify my $20 strap lock than my $1500 bass, just me being me. Also, don't forget to use a small felt washer between the strap pin and body, it really does help protect the wood and gives the pin a nice professional look.

If i can, i'd use the original screw with the schaller strap pin that way there's no mod needed to fill in the hole. So far it's worked.

Dylan, that one's an Orville that's been refinned and made to look like a '63, IIRC the bridge is from Tone Pros and the tailpiece was done by one of the guys from LBO, custom painted by HMR guitars, I got from Curt Traynor also from LBO, who is an absolute monster player and a really nice.

Here's Curt with his Who tribute band just tearing it up....Note that rig!

I would die happy if I could play like this bass player.

So first thoughts on my first bird.
Holy crap this neck is fast! I mean deadly fast!
I don't even think my MIM Jazz had a neck quiet this fast and I could really fly on it.

Sounds great going through my Orange Terror bass with my SP212. For fun I cracked it to noon on volume and gain for just a groove or 2 (and I'm sure my neighbors loved me for it).

The bass itself had one ding on the body (which I was aware of) and light scratching but nothing terrible.
I was really interested to dig my fingers into this bass so to speak, because most the T bird videos out there people are always jamming with a pick (which does sound awesome).
I broke all the taboos. I slapped, popped, and tapped my way all around the fret board, plus rocked it with a pick for a while.
I then briefly ran my Brimstone Audio crossover distortion through it. Sounded great.

I could see this easily becoming my go to bass. Have done just a tad bit of recording with it but can't wait to record a song with it!

A boy catches a few hours sleep and 5 pages. What a bunch of Chatty Charlies.
I'll just add my support to the praise of this this club and appreciation to Mark. This one is the best.
I like the Telecaster Bass Club too.

No kidding. I always get that, "oh s%^* " feeling when a couple of days goes by and I haven't gotten an email notification from TB. Sure enough, I check in and there's 10 pages to catch up on!

Still not sure why my notifications shut off sometimes. :bored:

"I love the smell of vanilla in the morning"... :)

Does your case still smell like that too?
A little bit still but not too much.
I'm highly allergic to some fragrances, of which vanilla scent is one. Plays havoc with my sinuses, causes debilitating sneezing fits. When I first got the Bird I didn't know about the scented case - my daughter removed the bass from the case and put the case under the Christmas tree so I wouldn't have to wait until Christmas Day to play it. About two weeks went by and I was having mild allergy attacks. Assumed it was a scented candle someone had brought into the house. Then on Christmas Eve I opened the case to put the bass back in and about died! Over twenty rapid fire massive sneezes in about a one minute period, tried to hold one of them back so I could catch my breath and ended up bursting my eardrum! Needless to say, the case went out in the garage and was left open for about a month to air out. It's better now, with only a hint of vanilla scent and it stays closed in a closet with all the other cases so I'm good to go.
My 2014 EB bass case wasn't too much of a problem and neither of my 2007 SG cases were a problem, you could just barely pick up a trace of the vanilla. Somebody must have overdosed the Tbird case.

I'd expect our queen to have the Thunderbird logo, shoulder blade to shoulder blade. :woot:

Not quite, I do have a the "Bird on each upper arm, one is the Nikki Sixx design the other is the standard Bird.
