To my (cloth) ears the Gibson is deep but not as deep as the Epi. A bit more light included in a light n dark mix.

I like the Epi but I like the Gibson more.

(I’ve been sick and my head isn’t working well. The smoke from all these bushfires has knocked me over).

Anyway I’d say the Gibson’s have a wider tonal range yet still on the dark/deep side. I like them.

So...I have a gig this weekend in Long Island, and while I was trying to figure out which bass to lug out there, Journey's "Stone in Love" came on here in my living room.

Now, I'm not a religious man. At all. But, I am 100% certain that there's a special, dark, miserable, violent place in hell for Ross Valory's bass tone on the Escape album. I don't know Ross, and he may be a great guy, but I do have an Ovation Magnum I and a Magnum II, and with some quick dialing-up a of tone, they both sound great. Like, really great. And NOTHING like the aural-assault that Valory came up with for that album!
And I can't blame the producer, Mike Stone, as he engineered all the early Queen albums, which all sound amazing.

Anyway, that's all I have to say. Just needed to vent Sorry.

I know what you mean. It's not my sound--ever. But it works on some of those song. Live from that era his bass didn't sound that way.

Hmm. Couldn't 'hear' it in my head so I googled it. Sounded like spit(sp?).Found a live video where it actually sounds like a bass. 'Course the camera studiously avoided getting footage of Valory 'cept in the background.

It's true - it seems like the singer and lead guitar get the most coverage, drummer, rhythm guitar and keyboardist a bit, and bass-players maybe one quick shot. Unless of course if the bass-player is the lead singer...

I'm with you - I watch some basketball, some baseball, some soccer, some Olympics, the Tour de France for sure, and that's about the extent of my interest. Not by myself ever - usually with friends who are into those sports, except cycling... will always watch cycling.

It emulates the original Gibson Firebird with one pu and no whammy-bar - I saw one played live many years ago by John Hyatts' lead guitarist (?) and thought it looked so right.
