We take levels b4 we start(PA is voices only). After the first song[we usually open with 2-3 instrumentals], I make adjustments, usually volume only, occasionally EQ. If necessary during a song, I'll play a few measures left hand only hammering and tweak a knob insert 'ahem' here with my right-a technique I developed early on so I could keep the bass line going and have a drink with the other hand, easy to do playing bossa novas.

I always try to find a way to play a bit with left hand only, to facilitate grabbing a drink.
My cover band has vocals, keys, guitar and horns going through the PA.
I also run the lights with a foot controller.
Nice thing about the digital mixer, is you can save and recall settings for the room.

Any opinion here on using GHS Heavy Boomers on a Gibby TB?
Will the neck be good with the heavy gauge? I still got a set araound at home but am kinda turned off by the general comments on boomers (short life, mehh tone)

Can't speak specifically to the Boomer strings but the heavy gauge shouldn't be a problem. I'm running 50-110 heavy Taper wounds (DR Black Beauties) on my 2015 Gibson TBird and the only difference it made set up wise was a small nudge to the right on the truss rod. The thicker stiffer strings actually allowed me to drop my action down a bit closer to the frets for even faster play.

What are the gauges? I have a set of 50-110 or so on a Gibby with no problems. I didn't even tweak it from the lighter ones I had on it before. I didn't notice a difference, but then I am not all that sensitive to string height. Based on that, my expectation is that you will be fine.

I agree. No problems with my Heavy strings.

98% of the time, that's what I go for.

The other current sound fashion that sucks is overamping the kick drum. All you hear is the thwack of the kick drum. The bass disappears into a sea of thwack. I don't even like it when I'm playing drums. It makes everything turn to EDM EQ mush. Or worse.

Yes, I've noticed this trend in the last 10 years or so. It's like the kick must crack sternums or it's not at the right level. It simply drowns lows and covers up a lot good stuff.

Agreed. I've been to "Chicago" concerts where I could see the bass man playing the notes and all I could hear was the bass drum.

totally agree but the power to move loads of air can be intoxicating and some bassists overindulge....not thinking about what sounds best for the band....

I make it a point to start off a little low. I prefer to hear "hey, can ya turn it up ?" to "HEY! Yer too effin' loud!"

Well, in the sound guys defense, have you taken a look at the latest Guitar Center Black Friday mailer? It's 25 pages of every kind of instrument and gear you'd need for a band... except not one single solitary hint of a bass, nope, not even an Ibanez, nada, zelch, zip! Maybe the sound guy is following GC's lead and ignoring that insignificant little 4 string guitar shaped thing.
