the XLR is the DI out. if you want to use a preamp, either go into the “Powe Amp In” or the FX loop “Return” both 1/4” jacks

Mine (Little Markbass Tube 800) doesn’t.

Yeah just looked at the manual on Markbass site and it says that input is 100K/25V p/p, so a balanced line input to the preamp.

correction, mine does have it. I just use the 1/4” input. wondering when you would use a balanced in since most basses are not. must be when the bass goes straight into the mixer and a monitor bass signal (line level) gets sent back to the stage.....wondering what the advantage would be in doing it that way...

That's a fairly drastic 'fix'... luckily you are not my doctor! Now that you've gone that far, I'd suggest going a bit further.

That would look neat but would have been a lot more work. I originally thought about trying to repair it but that thick finish would be a bear to work with and it would cost more than the $250 I spent to purchase the bass. As it sits now, it's truly a visible FrankenGoth and that's good enough for me.

Interesting move... I'd do something similar if I had a few Birds, including a chopper. Jio's take is also interesting. Doing something with the remaining lower bout could yield some funky, more defined result. Or you could shape the bottom and take another step into NR territory.

I thought about reshaping the bottom to balance the look out a bit but was concerned it might also effect the strap balance of the bass.

I'm sure it's a very good amp - but I wish the overly bright yellow design wasn't angled. (or overly yellow) Just me. I much prefer the look of my Heathkit... er, Ashdown -

That stuff does have a way of throwing bass sounds into a space though.

Good comparison - I usually dig Italian design... but it screams (something...) I feel they're going the route of Trace Elliot with an eye-grabbing "look" to set them apart. Orange has a very designed 'look' also but is a bit easier on the eyes.

David Sanborns music-centric TV show was pretty cool - Hiram Bullock hung/played(PDB)/(took drugs) with Jaco in the 80's in NYC - one of the top Jazz cats then.

SRV made doing what he did look effortless - he really had a gift.
