Thunderbird Club

Indeed. A somewhat incapacitated friend picked up my Hamer case one night and the bass dropped partway out of it, thankfully unharmed. I gave him a gentle rasping for it (a rasping nonetheless) and he said something like "You musicians and your guitars". I replied "That's because they're hard to come by." I was understood...

Lol, and he's not even a rich guy.

always thought it breaks up cheap copies at concerts;)

Killing two birds with one stone. :(

Does anybody know if the Hipshot ultralights screwhole fits the Gibsons' and what diameter the machine drillings are?

I don't wanna chrome my Bird, but I think black glovers would look awesome on my red Gibbo. Maybe buying the white replacement TR cover as a contrast.

Slight thread hijack, apologies if this has been discussed here before (I'm sure it most likely has). I've only read the past 100 or so pages, no luck doing a search so...

What strings are most recommended for the T-Bird, especially an active Epi Pro V 5 string? I always used GHS Bass Boomers back in the day, just wondered if there is something better to get the T-Bird sound. TIA for your input.

Strings are such an individual preference that it's hard to answer a question like that. I have Chromes on my fretless 'Bird and they work well for it. The '91 Gibson has EB Cobalt flats, and it sounds like an angry piano. It's really tough to keep it on its leash! The Epi bolt-on has some unknown set of rounds on it. They were there when I got it, and they sound pretty good. They are thumpy for rounds and thumpy for a 'Bird. The 2015 has stock strings on it for now. They are getting a bit dead, but they sound pretty good, even as dead strings.

That probably doesn't help with your question much, but it goes to show how hard it is to answer your question in a way that will make sense for you and your bass. What kind of sound are you looking for?

Yeah, strings.

Well you might start with what you like to feel under your fingers. That, and what you think the bass is trying to give you- now that comment is along the lines of the ethic that a Thunderbird chooses you, in the way that Harry Potter's wand chose him. This has been discussed here before... Anyway...

Me, I go with flats most of the time. That said, and realizing that aT-Bird is at its heart a rock n roll machine, I've found that the EB Cobalt Flats are a nice combination of Goalee:s "angry piano" and the not-too-murky THUMP of Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats. I play an Epiphone T-Bird Pro IV, as stock at this point, and it's been a very successful relationship.

Rounds? If I were playing rounds I might just go throw some Rotosound RS-66 on 'em. But I'm a flats guy. And there are nice roundwound sets out there that won't chew your frets quite as fast as Rotos will.

There's the Bell, my time's up...

Tehy should & be sure to contact hipshot to get mini clovers cause 1-they don't advertise those on the site 2-they will fit perfectly without hitting each other.

& the size you'll need is 3/8 not 1/2.

Clank goes the trolley?

Big clanky trolley! In the mix with the band I love clank! Nothing like the sound of a Tortex .73 hitting the strings and the pickup!
