I've been blessed with the ability to own a lot of basses, guitars and amps (my profile page is pretty much up to date). But of all the basses I own, I'd have to say I get the most enjoyment out of my Thunderbirds and SG's. I'll occasionally pull a Fender off the wall to play but usually within a couple of songs I'm right back to one of the TBirds or SG basses. Thunderbirds are the Lays Potato Chip of the bass world, no one can have just one.
I have five birds (including the Spector) and every one of them has different pickups and different strings, so no two sound or play exactly the same. In my twisted mind it's the reasoning I use to justify multiple birds.
The Anniversary Bird has a rich and smooth tone so I use it mainly for jazz, swing, blues and soft rock tunes. The 2015 bird is exceptionally loud and agressive so I use it for hard hitting classic rock tunes. The VP sits very forward in the mix so it gets more funk, grunge, modern rock and Southern rock use. The FrankenGoth with it's active preamp and Bart pups is very piano like and gets the nod for classical and orchestra type music. The five string Spector with it's active preamp and EMG pups gets a lot of Prog rock time. With the exception of the FrankenGoth all are bone stock.
That said, I'm sure I could cover all those genres with probably just the Anniversary Bird and the VP. The other three birds are all more specialized in sound. Like many in the club I'm gassing for a NR bird, but if I got a newer one it most likely would get a Thunderbucker pup upgrade to get it closer to the 1960's vintage tone.
